Talk:Nicholas Shadrin

Shadrin's wife edit

When the Soviets kidnapped him in Vienna, if I understand your entry correctly; he alone, without his wife, was kidnapped? This is from my poor memory and may be confused? His wife ran an aircraft art prints store in Alexandria, Va.; or her store was one or two stores away from the a/c print store; same side of street. I collect Eastern Air Lines, Piedmont Airlines, USAir and US Airways a/c & travel posters prints and decades ago visited her store. There were nicely dressed technicians installing stuff over her ceiling tiles. Does he have a memorial stone where she is to be buried? ∞ focusoninfinity 04:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Shadrin (real name Artamonov) had a previous marriage in the USSR. The KGB info here about Shadrin's death is not necessarily correct. Corson and Trento have written that Artamonov may have been returned to the Soviet union by the KGB and lived anonymously there, since his life had been endangered by the US CIA as a double agent, in extraordinary and unbelievable circumstances. (which reflect very poorly on the CIA!) This wiki article indicating that Artamonov died in 1975 should be placed in dispute. ref: "Widows" by Corson Trento As can be seen here, the statement by the KGB about Shadrin's death is entirely hearsay. I am surprised frankly that the Wiki allows such weak and undocumented content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Montoya44 (talkcontribs) 04:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

The facts: Nicholas Artamonov had two wives. His first, together with his son by her, he left in Latvia when he defected with his lover to Sweden and then the U.S. His second was his lover whom he married upon defection. She was a dentist by training and continued to practice dentistry in a Washington, D.C. suburb. The above mention of her ostensibly being connected with an aircraft prints store sounds strange and specious. Moryak (talk) 17:27, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
