Spelling Nick's Name edit

The following is taken from the original Nicolas Eymeric page, and deals with the reasons for the change to "Nicolau Aymerich" as the main article

Hey Joan_sense_nick is there any reason for changing the spelling of the first given instance of the name to "Nicolau Aymerich"? The most common english spelling seems to be (after a quick google) "Nicholas Eymerich", with the spelling, "Nicholas Eymeric" appears most often (by a vast majority) in books on the subject (a search on Google Books which is, admitedly, limited), while the title page of the 1578 impression of the Directorium gives his name as "Nicolai Eymerici" (Latinised, i would assume), by contrast, i found only 9 results for the spelling, "Nicolau Aymerich". Since you seem to have a much greater knowledge of the history of the Iberian Peninsula than i do, i'm not trying to be argumentative, just curious as to reason... and trying to find some sort of a workable consensus. Even in researching the article all the varient spellings drove me near to madness :P Ignus 01:37, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ignus. Please note that the spelling changes were made by an anonymus user: 161.116.236.28 , not by me. Instead of this, I replaced the useful lost information on different spellings. On the other hand, I think that "Nicolau Aymerich" is a correct way to spell it nowadays, since it's the current Catalan language spelling. Aymerich is still a usual Catalan surname. Nicolau is catalan for Nicholas, (Nicolas is the Spanish language form). It's a WP criterium to use the local language spelling if possible. --Joan sense nick 02:03, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

All right, how about this then, i create as the main page one entitled "Nicolau Aymerich", and turn the current page into a redirect (and fix the various links that link to the current page). And then i'll add a more detailed note about his name... somewhere in the article, to (hopefully) clear up some confusion surrounding his name, and make some independant research easier. What do you think? Ignus 03:11, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Piercing the tongue edit

"Eymerich also introduced the practice of piercing a heretic's tongue with a nail so they could not blaspheme": He was not "the first one", I read somewhere that King St Louis of France had been admonested by the pope for doing the same thing, this should be checked. Michelet o' french WP

I altered this to read that he used the practice, but was not necessarily the first to do so. I'll do some googling to see if there's an earlier record, if it was a fairly common practice, it may be that the first to do so is lost in the mists of time too. Ignus 00:42, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
