Ngoni language Classification edit

Glottolog does not list Ngoni as an Nguni language. ASJP lists 4 languages called Ngoni. One is a dialect of Chewa (as mentioned in the article), one is listed as a dialect of Zulu, and the other two form a single, distinct language of around 200,000 speakers. These two dialects are the Ngoni language referred to in this article. This language is listed as being part of the "Southern Tanzanian" group, a.k.a the Bena-Kinga languages (which are sometimes grouped with Rufiji-Ruvuma, but now are often grouped with Northeast Bantu). In addition, looking at the wordlist provided, it is clear that there are more similarities between Ngoni and Pangwa or Hehe than between it and Zulu. Most of the sources listing it as an Nguni language are more than a decade old. -MToumbola (talk) 15:26, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
