This article appears to be written in the manner of promotional literature, rather than from an unbiased perspective. Sonicwav 15:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've read the page and several pages from comparable schools, and the only part that reeks of... brochurity... is the Mission and Philosophy section. Would anyone squawk if I revised that section and removed the advertisement style tag? Eshafto 15:17, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

By all means, edit, but I think there are problems with other sections as well, and so would disagree with removing the advertisement tag until the whole article can be revamped. For example, in the Campus section, there is currently phrasing like "a state-of-the-art computer facility" and "the wooded reaches of the Passaic River." I have a feeling that much of this text was copied straight out of Newark Academy's own language, or at least written by someone promoting the school. Unsupported statistics and countries of international students are listed in the Student Body section. There is too much specific information in here without citations. Even if the POV bias is fixed, this article is still going to need external links to back up that information. However, I would be against deleting the article outright, because it can provide a starting point for more neutral and supported text. --Sonicwav 20:04, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:UNDUE and boosterism issues edit

@Alansohn This article suffers from several issues with due weight and contains multiple instances of boosterism for a secondary school. There is also issues with promotional tone, in combination with a significant lack of citations. Here are some examples:

The Cetrulo Family Fencing Center received several physical and technological renovations in summer 2019. The installation of new, specialized flooring and five strips, which provide electronic scoring, makes it one of the finest fencing centers in the country.

The Hawkes Memorial Library, opened in 1974, houses a 23,000-volume collection, as well as a vast periodical and microfilm collection.

The school has embarked on initiatives to minimize its impact on the environment. Current initiatives include increased recycling efforts, the introduction of energy-efficient lighting, the exploration of renewable energy options, the Passaic River clean-up and maintenance of a campus vegetable garden.

Newark Academy offers a wide variety of classes across disciplines and at many different levels. Newark Academy offers many IB and AP classes, in addition to other college-level classes in Multivariable calculus, Differential Equations, Linear algebra, Non-Euclidean geometry, and Number theory.

Newark Academy is part of the Malone Schools Online Network, a group of 26 elite independent schools across the country that offer a selection of 36 classes available online via webcam in conjunction with one another, run by teachers at the member schools.

Until these are fixed, I've added the booster tag to reflect the problematic content. GuardianH (talk) 07:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also, I forgot to mention, the lede needs to conform to WP:DUE weight. There is a whole lede section that houses rankings for the school, but none such section in the body — same issue with the history section. These need to be moved down into the body. GuardianH (talk) 07:52, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, the WP:COI editing [1] doesn't help the article either. GuardianH (talk) 07:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The concerns in your previous edit of "WP:UNDUE, see also WP:HIGHEREDREP" were addressed by moving the material into a separate section in terns of UNDUE, while your claim that the article violates WP:HIGHEREDREP conflicts with the fact that this is an article for a secondary school and the RfC you referred to is addressing colleges and universities. I edited the article and addressed your concerns.

All of the issues you've raised can be addressed by reviewing WP:PRESERVE. Does the material belong in the article? Can these problems be addressed? If the issue is wording, can the wording be changed to address perceived issues? If the issue is references, can you find sources that back up the claims?

I've tried to address your concerns and will continue to do so. I hope that you can make a genuine effort on your part to go beyond identifying perceived problems and deleting them and fulfill the spirit of dealing with issues by fixing them. Alansohn (talk) 14:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
