- Well, if they can't be mistaken for real ones, I think it's legal. I got them from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand website (which allows use of its contents), and the website says that you can reproduce banknotes provided provided it's not similar enough "to be likely to be confused with or mistaken for" a real one. It further specifies that anything less than three quarters the size of a real note is probably okay. Since the little ones are probably more like a fifth of the actual size, I think they should be okay, but I don't know about the larger one at the bottom. As an electronic image is unlikely to be mistaken for a real one, I think it's probably okay, but I could be wrong. -- Vardion 06:31, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)

CI Currency
Someone added a link to de with images of various CI banknotes - but are these considered NZD? At one point, the Cook Islands tried to have their own currency but if I recall correctly, some shady deal not entirely unlike a nigerian scam took the entire currency out. I'm wondering if these images are from this short lived period - not current issue. I've never heard of them being legal tender in NZ at any rate. Tenbaset 05:39, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- According to this page, they still have their own notes. Reading a bit further on various other pages, I suspect that both regular New Zealand notes and local Cook Islands notes are in use in the islands (and that the local Cook Islands notes are only legal tender in the Cook Islands). According to this page, the local notes are being phased out in favour of New Zealand ones. The notes pictured are (I think) the same that were in use when the islands had a separate currency, so I would speculate that when they abandoned that currency, they simply declared that the existing notes would count as New Zealand dollars until they could be replaced by the real thing. In the interests of public relations
Says the article:
Some larger retailers (notably one supermarket chain), in the interests of public relations, elected to round the total price down (so that $4.99 becomes $4.95 instead of $5.00).
Surely the real reason for this was the same as the reason for setting the price to $4.99 rather than $5.00 in the first place. They do it simply to make the product seem less expensive. Jimp 16Nov05

- Speaking as the person that probably wrote that all those years ago; no. Supermarkets are well within their rights to list a price at $4.99 and then round that up to $5 at the check-out. While I doubt I can find any online source, I do distinctly recall foodtown advertising that they would, in the interests of public relations, always round down. (this was back when 1c and 2c coins were removed; ages ago now! There was no big noise, nor similar such claim, made when the 5c coin was withdrawn in 2006.) Tenbaset 09:25, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
New Coins
Article needs updating with the new coins brought into circulation back in July. The 1997 mint of the $2 was thiner than it should have been causing problems with vending machines and it was supposed to be recalled. It's still legal tender.
Coin back
We need a picture of the Queen's potrait on the back of the coins. We should have both examples currently in circulation (since the $1 and $2 coins will have some with the new 1999 potrait, and some with the 1986 potrait). I personally don't think we should remove the info of the old coins but moving to a seperate article might be wise. Ideally, we should also aim for examples of the two other queens potraits that were used with the old coins Nil Einne 15:28, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

New Zealand now no longer has 5 cent coins. They started being taken out of circulation in October 2006 and now are completely gone.
Why the change?
The article makes no mention of any justification for the change to new coinage in 2006. Was it to make the coins more distinct from Australian coins? Or some other reason? Stevage 04:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- I believe the change was to make the coins lighter as the value had dimished since 1967, and eliminate the 5c which the bank states was equal to half a cent back in 1967. Also to make them cheaper to mint. References later mate Enlil Ninlil 06:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

The Queen
Why is the Queen's name all capitillized? Her name doesn't need to be capitillized, or does it? I mean, is there a specific reason for that? Or do people just want the Queen to be more recognized? 121.72.19.92 05:26, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

- When you write God, it is only when that god has been identified and word God replaces that god's name e.g Enlil, the same with President when refering to Jaque Chiraqu (France), instead of which president is that. Does anyone know how many millenium 10's were printed, and also, I'm presuming when first released it was reasonably common to get them in normal circulation, but is that stilll the case. Millenium 10's
I've established that 1.5 million millenium $10 were printed for normal circulation ($15m worth) and that there are 190 million worth of $10 all up, so Millenium 10's are about 1/15, so the question is, how common is it for a New Zealander to get one in there change? Mint
The info box says that the New Zealand mint is the maker of NZ coins; this is not the case, as is said in the article; the coins are mnted by the Royal Canadian Mint. Since the NZ mint has nothing to do with the making of circulation coins, surely this should be changed? Tarcus (talk) 06:20, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Wat
I have two $20 notes beside me, and I've located the tiny RBNZ initials on one of the notes, however the other one simply has NZNZNZNZ repeated, while the other (and every other one I've seen) has RBNZRBNZRBNZ.
Is there any explaination for one note missing the RB?

Really? I'm a 30 year old New Zealander and have not once heard the NZ Dollar referred to as a kiwi. Perhaps it's only referred to this in certain circles, most likely outside New Zealand. I'm tempted to remove this bit unless anyone has an opinion. Nzseries1 (talk) 13:15, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is not usually used in this sense in general discourse within NZ, where other meanings predominate. But it is common usage in forex circles. Over use of non-free images
At the end of March 2011, I raised an issue regarding the heavy use of non-free images on numismatics articles at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Numismatics#Usage_of_non-free_images. Three weeks later, there's been no response. My intention is to remove much of the non-free content of coins/notes from this article for violating WP:NFCC #3a, requirement for minimal use, and WP:NFCC #8, since many/all of the non-free images are designs not specifically referred to in the text by externally sourced commentary.
