Unknown film
editDespite the fact that the movie in the painting itself is not known, Hopper's wife and fellow painter Josephine Hopper wrote in her notes on New York Movie that the image represents fragments of snow-covered mountains
Seems pretty clear that it's one of two films: Lost Horizon (1937), or The Mountain Calls (1938). Surely, someone has figured this out? Viriditas (talk) 23:51, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Re: sexual appeal
editAs with many of his other works, Hopper did not attempt to paint her with any obvious sexual appeal, as he hoped with his work to paint women with complete honesty towards their situation, both exterior and interior
This is slightly confusingly worded, as the "covert eroticism" of Hopper’s work is well known, as are the many nude or partially clothed women who resemble his wife. This might need some clarification given these things. Viriditas (talk) 11:00, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
