Comment edit

The Second Great Rectification Movement DID NOT initiate killing purges but was a result of the need to stop them which was occuring while JoMa Sison was in prison. He led the SGRM to end the senseless killing by renegade elements.

An intro. to this article, i.e. foundations of the NPA especially in relation to the CPP's formation and Maoist (and indirectly Soviet) influence pervading the Philippines, would be a great addition! Retrospector87 (talk) 18:24, 23 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article neutrality edit

Is this article neutral? It appears to me it could use some work. --Peter Robinett 07:47, 25 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Deleted biased terms. --203.87.158.181 11:11, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Removing the extortionist term does not necessarily indicate bias or POV. Since NPA extortion victims are usually rural landlords or business owners, I will add them to the article.

It was not the extortionist term that was removed. The anonymous user was pertaining to this. Anyway, I'd like to know why this particular paragraph was removed. And please try adding --~~~~ to every post you make in the talk pages. --Quess 15:51, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I completely agree. This article does not appear to be neutral. Most of the citations in the article are inaccurate and incomplete.

e.g.

1. "On January 5, 2008, at 1 p.m., the New People's Army shot at soldiers along the route of Senator Edgardo Angara in Dinalungan, Aurora. A short time later, Angara, by mobile phone, stated that there is “no more danger to my life.”[10]"

When the Philippine Daily Inquirer article (which was cited as reference for the statement above) clearly stated that the attackers were SUSPECTED NPA rebels and that Angara was away from the area and that his location was "like Manila and Tawi-Tawi". Nowhere in that article did it quote Angara saying that there was no longer danger to his life, he did not even know that there had been an ambush. Angara and the military DID NOT EVEN BELIEVE that Angara was the target of the attack.

2. "In March 2007 Rep. Satur Ocampo was arrested on charges of murder relating to purges within the CPP/NPA alleged to have occurred during the 1980s.[7] "

Read on the Wikipedia article on Satur Ocampo and it will mention that Ocampo's charges have been dismissed.

"Leftists see it as part of a campaign of persecution against them.[citation needed]"

Citation needed? Check the Al Jazeera article listed as citation seven's reference because it clearly states how Ocampo had said "These charges of murder are political harassment and repression and are an attempt to prohibit me from campaigning."

3. Well, I did not bother verifying references 1-3 because they were clearly biased since the New People's army were supposedly against US imperialism. But what was not mentioned in the article was how the "terrorist" classification of the NPA has allowed the peace talk between the government and the NPA to collapse according to the same Al Jazeera article.

Please revise that article. And PLEASE check the sources.

NPA and Abu Sayyaf? edit

I read in another article that the NPA is allies with Abu Sayyaf, is this true? Why would a Communist guerrilla army ally itself with a smaller Islamic fundamentalist group which wants to create an Taliban-style theocracy???

Do you have a link to an article? I think those are just rumors... --Quess 18:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah actually it was at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Enduring_Freedom_-_Philippines
It just seems to so wierd to imagine an NPA-Abu Sayaf alliance. I am not a Maoist or a Marxist personally, but why would Marxist-Leninist-Maoists who wish to rid the world of all class and social divisions ally with a group that wants to establish a Koranic Theocracy and has even beheaded Catholic school girls for sectarian reasons??

AS a MARXIST i completely disagree with the notion of a cpp-npa , abu sayyaf alliance this nothing but a mere fallacy created by the paranoid american propaganda against socialism —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.189.11.2 (talk) 05:56, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

"In 2005 and 2006 renewed fighting between the government forces and Abu Sayyaf guerillas allied with the New People's Army (NPA) hit the south of the Philippines. At the end of 2006 the NPA is estimated to have 7,000 fighters while Abu Sayyaf has 2,000."

That one part in the article that you mentioned that claimed alleged "alliance" between the Abu Sayyaf and the New People's Army has not been backed up by any reliable reference. vana04 (talk) 18:25, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Use of the abbreviation CPP edit

After seeing this edit, I looked at the article with an eye to expanding the abbreviation CPP on first use. I found that the lead initially said that the NPA is the armed branch of the CPP and said a bit later that the CPP is the NPA's political organization. I've changed "political organization" to " parent organization" in that latter appearance. The infobox also at one point indiceted that CPP was an abbreviation for "Government of the Philippines". I've changed that to GPH. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 22:48, 29 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree with your use of the abbrev. "GPH", but I would prefer the term "political organization" to describe the CPP's relationship to the NPA. It's true that the CPP "runs" or "manages" the NPA. "Political organization" would describe the exact nature of this parent relationship: the full-fledged apparatus of the CPP as a "provisional" government complete with a ruling structure and an active military Retrospector87 (talk) 03:40, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
The original wording "the NPA's political organization, the CPP" seemed to say there that the CPP is a part of the NPA—that's what bothered me in the first place. How about "the NPA's parent political organization, the CPP", "the CPP, the political organization of which the NPA is a part" or "the CPP, the political organization to which the NPA belongs"? Alternatively, how about just saying "pending formal negotiations with the CPP", as the article's lead sentence not far previous clearly said that the NPA is a part of the CPP. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:34, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I get your point. I'd go with the phrase "the NPA's parent political organization, the CPP". Retrospector87 (talk) 04:40, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I made that change. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:49, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Numbers and compensation of victims edit

Something that I've noticed when doing research on this group is that the only sources on the conflict that I can find are from either the military or the group itself, and both are extremely bias and generally untrustworthy as pointed out by a recent ABC article (I'll link it in a second.) I did however, find a source from neither side that stated that they were about 8000-9000 men strong.

http://www.terrorism101.org/organizations/Communist_Party_of_Philippines.html

Another, more reliable source says over 10,000 and growing.

http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para/npa.htm

So I'd think that 8000-10,000 is a good estimate.

Also there is a source that I found while researching that stated that they intend to compensate their civilian victims. Though I think that it would be better to find more sources on that one before adding it, not because the source is unreliable but because I think it would be better to give a more complete picture of the story.

Merge this article with Communist Party of the Philippines and Communist insurgency in the Philippines article? edit

The New People's Army and the Communist Party of the Philippines are two wings of the same organization. Indeed they are often referred to in press reports in the same breath and with the same leadership, e.g. the NPA/CPP. By merging the articles we could make it clearer how the two wings are related to each other; their similarities and their differences would be side-by-side. Further, both organizations share the same history. The events -- the successes, the divisions, the negations, etc. -- that effected one effected the other. There is not two separate histories. It is duplicating work to have two separate articles with two separated histories. With one article, it could be updated and monitored for NPOV more easily and be more encyclopedic.

There is also a rather pathetic Communist insurgency in the Philippines article, which could be merged into one encyclopedic article. The National Democratic Front (Philippines) also contains little information and could also be added easily to one encyclopedic article.

So, here's a suggestion: merge all three articles into one comprehensive article called "Communist insurgency in the Philippines" which would be primarily a history and analysis of the armed struggle. As part of that article have a section(s) describing how the communist side is organized including sections on the NPA and the CPP, focusing on delineating the differences between the two. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 01:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

World Mathaba Organization edit

Gaddafi used his World Mathaba Organization to support various revolutionary separatist groups

Hasan di Tiro helped Mathaba and Gaddafi support the Free Papua Movement of Jacob Prai, the Kanak faction in New Caledonia, the South Maluku Separatists, and the Moro National Liberation Front led by Nur Misuari in the Philippines.

COLONEL GADDAFI'S shadowy international revolutionary organisation Mathaba, established in the Libyan capital of Tripoli and dispensing funds to liberation movements around the world, is run by a most unlikely radical. Tunku Mohammed Hassan di Tiro, a Sumatran prince, fervent Muslim and bitter opponent of Indonesia, is the chairman of Mathaba's political committee.... Hassan di Tiro himself makes the crucial decisions, and runs a personal network of contacts with the liberation movement leaders Libya supports, among them Jacob Prai of the OPM (Free Papua Movement) of West Papua and Yann Ce- tene Uregei of New Caledonia's Kanak radical faction,

In an exclusive interview with Pacific Islands Monthly, at his headquarters in Tripoli, he outlined Mathaba's organisation and aims for the Asia Pacific region. The Mathaba Against Imperialism, Racism, Zionism and Fascism, to give the front its

@Rajmaan:, Gaddafi funded the organization called Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Not this New People army. OccultZone (Talk) 19:49, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes he did, Gaddafi funded all three organizations, New People's Army, Moro National Liberation Front, and Moro Islamic Liberation Front.Rajmaan (talk) 19:51, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
If you say so. Anyone is allowed to edit the article, I will probably add a new section about the funding. If you know anyone else other than Gaddafi funding this organization, ping here. OccultZone (Talk) 12:11, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Allegations of foreign support edit

Under the allegations of foreign support we have two citations, one claiming that China funded the NPA and another claiming both North Korea and the defucnt Malayan Communist Party have funded the NPA. The citation claiming China supports the NPA has no page number and no url making it impossible to verify, and the second citation takes us to a book which doesn't provide any evidence of foreign support. The only evidence for support from China is that they own Chinese rifles. But the NPA also own many Israeli Tavor-21 and American M16 rifles, but that isn't proof that either countries funded the NPA.

I cannot find any proof of foreign governments funding the NPA and all my attempts to find a link have given me countless statements by the NPA denouncing China.

If we can't find any proof then I will consider deleting the section and removing mention of Chinese support. I will wait a while so people can read this and perhaps someone can find more evidence. BulgeUwU (talk) 17:55, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

False claims of designation removed edit

I have removed the false claims of designation by the UK, Canada and Australia. These can be found in many supposedly reliable references such as this, however the actual United Kingdom, Canada and Australia lists do not include the claims. FDW777 (talk) 19:59, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Gabriela Women's Party addition removed from infobox edit

Firstly as pointed out it's unreferenced, see WP:BURDEN. Secondly, as pointed out it's not mentioned in the article, thus a violation of MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, which states the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article. So as it's not mentioned in the article, it doesn't get mentioned in the infobox. FDW777 (talk) 21:39, 23 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Newest update on NPA's Size Count and its Guerilla Fronts edit

I want to know and change on whats currently in the wiki SymmetricalDoings (talk) 09:01, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SymmetricalDoings: Do you have an independent, reliable source? It would be greatly appreciated. Our current source for now is from Joma himself. An accurate estimate from a third-party would be better. pandakekok9 (talk) 09:27, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Outdated edit

This article is outdated, by what I read the New People's Army have made peace with the government with the help of Adventist World Radio. They were listening to Adventist World Radio and they have joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Catfurball (talk) 16:25, 28 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
