The link to NAI (Which I believe is the New Africa Initiative) redirects me to the McAfee entry! Still a newbie so not sure how to fix this...

Section 'Criticism of NEPAD' edit

This section is blatantly POV and full of unreferenced claims and plain propaganda. Unless someone cleans it up soon I will simply delete it. --Lost Goblin 12:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with the angry Goblin on all counts except the lack of references. As a student of global governance and regional integration, I believe that these are indeed fair and valid criticisms regarding NEPAD and the neoliberal development model in general. Whilst the article provides quite detailed information about NEPAD, I also believe that users are interested in finding out why NEPAD has been celebrated so much in the West but doesn't really seem to be endorsed by all African states. As a matter of fact, it is the baby of President Mbeki and he coincidentally governs the most industrialised country in Africa that can potentially benefit most from neoliberal policies aimed at attracting capital and investment. These neoliberal policies have been proven to have some adverse effects on state capacity to govern and do undoubtedly benefit the rich most. Moreover, I believe that the section clearly indicates that the listed criticisms are points of views of some observers and I believe they are useful entry-points to thinking about the benefits and qualities of NEPAD. Sure references would be nice, if I find time I can add them soonish. Also, there is no doubt that more critical viewpoints can be added, but I would assert that these reflect the dominant criticisms of Nepad to a quite large degree. What I didn't notice before, the list of criticism is adopted from the African Civil Society Declaration on NEPAD and is indicated as such. I now added an additional link to that source. This should resolve the problem of referencing, it of course remains only one critical viewpoint but I still think a legitimate one. Phlips.h 20:52, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Updates needed edit

Hello. This article is quite dated, as there have been many changes in NEPAD that are not reflected therein e.g. the fact that NEPAD was absorbed in the structures and processes of the African Union. I will return to supply needed edits in my free time, but I thought I should point it out in case there are other volunteers. BroVic (talk) 23:12, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
