Nelson's Witchcraft LP edit

The intention is to source material (session personnel, dates) relating to the production of this exceptional record in the hope of creating an article for it. All the info here is from an Astor pressing of re-release/compilation from Alshire by the name of Brass!!! Reeds!!! and the magnificent 101 strings. The liner notes don't provide details of the remastering of the original, Witchcraft (1957), which was recorded in mono (verification required), and there are still faults in the remastering e.g. the high treble and levels of solo instruments. It is also noteworthy that Witchcraft was by Riddle and his Orchestra, but in the re-issue it's with the 101 strings.
Here are the liner notes of Brass!!! Reeds!!!... their attribution is unknown:
"From the home of the Sound of Magnificence..... A NEW startling stereo concept with the strings, brass, percussion, reeds and Riddle (Nelson that is.....) Recorded in HOLLYWOOD, California, U.S.A. Featuring Dick Nash, Tommy Shepard, Shorty Sherock, Ronnie Lang, Buddy Collette, Cappy Lewis, Don Fagerquist, Joe Comfort, Willie Schwartz, Frank Flynn, Ray Sherman, Jimmy Henderson, Vince De Rosa and a host of America's finest are heavy with talent, and Mr. Riddle grooves with them all. Here's a sound spectrum of carefully culled world winners and Riddle originality that's "Out of Sight" and "In" on all channels. If it doesn't move your stereo setup, take it in for a check-up. This is one of the few albums even the boys in the band buy."Lmstearn (talk) 12:21, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

The tracks on this record were recorded by Nelson Riddle in 1962 and released on the Capitol LP "Love is a Game of Poker." See the Wikipedia entry. There is a persistent claim that "Witchcraft" was recorded in 1957/58, but this appears to be erroneous; the track comes from the 1962 sessions. A Capitol "Two on One" CD of "The Joy of Living" and "Love is a Game of Poker" is available on amazon.com. Johnwellsking (talk) 04:04, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
