Notability edit

User:BrownHairedGirl, please define your reasons for placing the notability template. The Kingfisher (talk) 03:59, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please tell me when enough RSs is enough for you to have notability established? Hopefully before it is excessive citations, which it now appears to be. The Kingfisher (talk) 04:07, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@The Kingfisher: please take some time to read and study WP:NOTABILITY, especially the section WP:GNG.
When I tagged the article[1], it had two sources: The Chouinard Foundation (not independent), and artprice.com, and auction price guide (not a reliable source. That's a complete fail of WP:GNG, which states that: If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list.
You have now added[2] a forest of bare URLs, rather than properly formatting the references. I have tagged the article again, and these comments apply to the current version[3]:
  1. Several of those URLs say nothing at all about Chouinard (e.g. [4])
  2. Refs 4 and 12 are duplicates[5]
  3. Refs 7 and 11 are duplicates
  4. Ref #8 [6] redirects to a Google search page
The rest of the links make passing mention of Chouinard herself, while discussing the art school. The result is that WP:GNG is not met.
Establishing notability requires more than indiscriminately dumping in a pile of bare URLs from a quick Google search. It needs that significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject ... and in this case, it's not here.
Some of the LA Times links provide a little detail on Chouinard herself, enough to write a short paragraph, nut not enough for a standalone article. This page should be merged and redirected to Chouinard Art Institute, where the LA Times articles could be used to add a few sentences to the history section. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 07:38, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for responding. I'll address your points later in the week, however, I will argue that The Chouinard Foundation is independent of Nelbert Chouinard. The Kingfisher (talk) 15:56, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
