Verb "Manage"

edit

Anybody notice that the style of the page uses the word "manage"/"managed" too much? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.83.212.60 (talk) 22:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Negi and Nekane's relationship

edit

Since it's relevant here and keeps coming up, I'll copy in what I said on the original charater page talk (with one minor correction):

Anyone who has Del Rey's translation of volume 8 will have noticed that Nekane is now referred to as Negi's cousin, specifially as his uncle's daughter. Have checked against the original manga I can see where they are coming from:
  • Negi and everyone else (including Nagi) refers to Nekane as his sister (onee-chan), however in Japan it is common for children to refer to older girls as "Onee-chan", especially when they have grown up together like brother and sister as Negi and Nekane have.
  • The man Nekane refers to as her Father (Otou-sansama), Negi calls Uncle (Oji-san). Again, it is common for children to refer to men as Ojisan, however Nekane's surname is also Springfield which means she and Negi are related so it is highly plausible that Negi is being brought up by his acutal uncle. It is also possible that he adopted both of them, but in which case you might expect Negi to also refer to his as Father. Shiroi Hane 00:39, 9 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Harry Potter References

edit

I don't see why there's need for a section that lists the paralelles between Negima and Harry Potter. It doesn't seem note worthy, and doesn't accomplish much. It's even worse than one of those pointless trivia sections.

I say remove it. WickedKnightAlbel (talk) 19:07, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree. It sounds very much like an attack on the Negima! franchise. It's basically saying that Akamatsu is copying off of Rowling. It doesn't cite any sources or have noteworthy facts. I'm in favor of deleting this section. DY (talk) 03:53, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rewrite completely or merge

edit

I undid the redirect of this article to the character page, as I disagreed to redirecting without merging and without discussion. Changing this article into a redirect without a merge would leave very unbalanced coverage of the characters in the series, with secondary characters having far more written about them than the main character. That said, this article as written is completely unencyclopedic, and I feel that it should either be rewritten entirely (if sources can be found indicating the characters real-world notability), or should be merged into the character article. Having unbalanced coverage can be fixed, although there are many other characters from the series that should be merged as well, so that would be something that needs work anyway. There are several options, my suggestions would be to Look for real world notability over a quick period of time. If none can be found, write a better summary suitable for merging to the main character list. If you do find the notability, then start the rewrite, and reference it as you go long. Simple. Use citations - even from the published mangas such as Del Ray's. The Negima character articles completely lack this practice. Otherwise, yes - the merge will have to be done. Justification for the existence of individual character pages - such examples, the Sailor Moon characters. KyuuA4 (talk) 13:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
