Too much info about Nebraska City!!

Elected Office Data

It is frequently asked of local journalists here in Nebraska City to whom the members of the city council are. The City of Nebraska City has no official government web site. It would be useful to provide this information here. It is useful to residents as well as outside individuals seeking this information.

information in question: As of 2012, the current offices held and their 2012 election challengers are as follows:

• Mayor: Jack Hobbie, challenged by Tracy Frey
• Finance Commissioner: Mark Mercer (non-election cycle)
• Parks Commissioner: Jeff Crunk, challenged by Lisa Winterstien
• Public Works Commissioner: Brett Gay, challenged by James Stark
• Streets Commissioner: Dean Handy (non-election cycle)

I dispute the removal of this information, however, abide by the decision to remove it, respectfully requesting further consideration. I volunteer my time to maintenance of this information in order to keep it current.

Also, in city doctrine, on city letterheads, and in city hall, it is referred to as "The City of Nebraska City," as opposed to "Nebraska City." Therefore in government related dialog it has been written as City of Nebraska City. I also request reconsideration of this edit.

1. The number 1 tip to make information survive on Wikipedia is to add citation references after all your text. If people can't easily validate new text, then a lot of times it gets deleted, because other author have no idea if the information is correct or not. See WP:Citing sources and WP:Verifiability.
2. Wikipedia city articles don't use the official legal name, instead it uses the common name. If you look on the US Census, this city is NOT listed as "The City of Nebraska City" but instead listed as "Nebraska City".
3. Per "The City of Nebraska City has no official government web site", then what is http://www.nebraskacity.com/ because it sure seems like it is. I've edited close to 1000 city articles, and it really ticks me off when I can't find official city websites to validate information.

The web site you referenced, http://www.nebraskacity.com/ is operated by a commercial entity, Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce. They are not a branch of local government nor do they utilize public funds for maintenance, operation, or hosting of the site. However, the site is perfectly valid to include here as it provides information on local government and events. I may have been the one that added it years ago. Local businesses optionally pay annual dues to Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce to be included on the web site business listing. There are many local businesses that are not members and therefore are not included on the site. The fact that the site has elements of an official city government web site and elements of a private commercial entity has always been troubling to me. It is unorthodox and atypical as compared to other cities. The official city web site should be http://www.nebraskacity.ne.gov/ since that is the established convention (see http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/ - operated on city funds) however, the convention is not applied here. Instead a private business offers a substitute.
