termcap interface

ne 2.0 uses tgetent for initialization, which is the termcap interface. While the underlying data may be provided by a terminfo database, that makes ne a termcap application (which entails several limitations - see the termcap and terminfo topics. Tedickey (talk) 11:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

No, tgetent() is never called when ne is compiled normally. The call appears in the files that are used when you compile with the NE_TERMCAP flag on (which is not the default). ne has no limitation related to termcap. By the way - read the manpage, as suggested. Your term.c assumes that none of the strings are cancelled (which would produce a runtime fault), and doesn't check all of the strings to ensure they're nonnull (for instance the cursor keys are not checked, and the logic for bell/flash relies on checking in ncurses to ensure tparm ignores a null parameter - not portable).
