Thank you Peteforsyth. Hoping to add more to history section in the future. Wish a more diverse set of sources was available with accurate info on the topic. Londonjackbooks (talk) 06:01, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Was was very interested in finding your article on NATO STRIKFORSOUTH edit

I learned a few things and pieced together numerous other relationships from your piece, having served as RM3 in the Comm section of DEPCOMSTRIKFORSOUTH ashore at the NATO compound in Naples NW suburb of Bagnoli. I started getting interested in what wikipedia has documented after finding a USN ship being homeported at Gaeta Italy, port for the U.S. 6th fleet. Having been there June'69 to May'71, with the COMSTRIKFORSOUTH homeported at Gaeta in the USS Spingfield and then USS Little Rock, the new 6th Fleet commander being at Gaeta rings true. But the ships of the 6th Fleet (& NATO-commanded ships from other nations?) were(?)/are homeported in the main harbor at Naples, in the Bay of Naples, 50? miles E of Gaeta. Looking further, I note that the old Bagnoli NATO compound seems to have been replaced by an entirely new compound in another part of Naples (that I have not yet determined). continuing - I find a wikipedia photo in one of the article on NATO ofm the the new Naples NATO compound where the only description of where the compound is points to the old/replaced WWII compound. Further in 1969-70, the US Navy hospital, PX, theater, non-com's Flamingo Club were in a compound described as being in Agnano - near Bagnoli. I am especially interested in whether this US facility is still there because my son was born in that Navy Hospital and I remember my wife being in a hospital room that smelled of volcanic steam pouring from fissure nearby - which must refer to "Riserva Naturale Cratere degli Astroni, a park shown in local maps. Attaching photo of "Lion of Saint Mark" (symbol at the time of Allied Forces Southern Europe) paperweight that I wass given on cycling out of Naples.
