Talk:Nationalization of oil supplies

POV issues edit

This article is written in a somewhat negative tone. It mentions the disadvantages of nationalization but not any benefits. While I am not necessarily an advocate of public ownership of oil reserves, the article should at least mention the good points of such a policy. --Eastlaw (talk) 04:46, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please fix or mention here phrases which you feel are negative in tone. Also, please mention here or in the article the aspects of the topic that are missing. NJGW (talk) 14:18, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What I meant was that the coverage here seems unbalanced. I don't object to mentioning the disadvantages of nationalization, but this article doesn't really mention A) the rationale behind why a government would nationalize petroleum and B) whatever alleged benefits, whether real or illusory, would come from such a policy. --Eastlaw (talk) 09:24, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree. I had spun this article off of another article that was bloated, so any help in fixing it would be appreciated. I'm going to change the tag to "unbalanced" to reflect the actual issue (that the present language is OK, but another view needs to be expressed better). NJGW (talk) 14:33, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Peace justice and environmental reasons may predominate the decision to nationalize (US) oil supplies in the future. For the latter, see http://www.theguardian.com/environment/true-north/2014/dec/03/want-a-green-energy-future-nationalize-canadas-oil-industry. For peace and justice, I cite two items. First, note the relation between oil and war:

If US oil was nationalized, we would not start a war in the Ukraine, we would keep all the gas here, the price would stay low due to the big supply, home heating oil would say cheap, we would need to import less oil, the general price of oil would go down causing a boost to jobs by making our factories cheaper to run, we would spend less on military hardware by not making war…. on and on in a positive spiral instead of the negative spiral that we are in now.

Second, oil companies have perpetrated RICO-style fraud on the world by their coordinated denials of the harmful effects of their product, using tactics similar to the Tobacco Companies. Hypergrove (talk) 22:00, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

School project edits edit

In the next few days this page will soon get a significant revision and subsequent editing from students participating in the Public Policy Initiative. This article was chosen because it is missing content or sourcing and has been relatively innactive. Their draft articles are being formed in their user space and will be transfered here. Links to the drafts can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject United States Public Policy/Courses/Political Economy of Technology and Science fall 2010. I will not be allowing students to that first initial transfer unless their article has been significantly improved in references and content. Please provide comments on the significant revisions and help the students improve the Wikipedia formatting. However, I would greatly appreciate that any major content changes be suggested to the students on the talk page so that they get the experience editing collaboratively and through consensus and feedback. The final date for the project is Friday December 10, expect significant editing from now until then. Thank you.

If you have any questions feel free to raise them here or on my talk page, Myself and other WP:Online Ambassadors will be monitoring their edits, so we will also be able to help fix issues on the pages, Sadads (talk) 01:18, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looks nicely fleshed out. I fixed some glaring style issues and moved a few sections around. After a very quick glance, I would suggest trying to tone down economic jargon and shortening some of the section titles (tighter phrases). More could be done on the content, but this is an amazing leap forward for this article. 24.216.225.123 (talk) 19:16, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
