What is the basis of the current divisions which for example breaks Carmarthenshire into north and south to no obvious advantage? cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:58, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

The division seems to have been there from the start of the article in 2004. Dividing it by Council areas would not seem to be very helpful - several council areas may have only one or two reserves (or none), using historical counties does not assist those who have no knowledge of historical counties. Maybe an arbitrary division with North Wales( everything from Flintshire down to the Dovey), West Wales (all of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire), East Wales ( Powys and Monmouthshire) and South Wales (all the rest) ?. We appear to have no a single reference for this! The website of NRW is not all helpful in this regard - it lists a few named examples. However it does assert that all NNRs are also SSSIs. I have a full listing of all Welsh SSSIs and the reasons for designation and yet there are red-linked names on the current list here which have no corresponding SSSI listed on my list. How can that be?

There has been some recent effort to alphabetise the list but as this is a fully sortable table, Wikipedia sorts to its own criteria so any subtle rearrangement is lost whenever the table is sorted. This isn't a significant issue, it probably just indicates that it isn't worth the effort of sorting the list in edits.

If anyone has some good sources, that would be a real asset. Incidentally, I also have reservations about the interactive map which is linked at the end. It looks useful, but there is no evidence of who the creator of the map layers is and what data has been used to generate the payers. Unfortunately the NNR layers do not include names for the individual entities so, in that regards, it is rather less useful than it might be.
