NYS NRHP applications on-line

New York State has most of the NHS NRHP applications online at http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/default.asp

The search page is: http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/hp_basic.asp

This is a Java application and it does not work intuitively. The applications are graphics rather than .pdf. You have to hit "Results" in the upper right corner after you enter your criteria. I have had problems getting it to work in Firefox but it works fine in Internet Explorer. However all that said it is a spectacular resource and the information will probably far exceed your expectations. Americasroof (talk) 13:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

NYS OPRHP press releases about new NRHP listings

Here is a NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) press release about 28 new NRHP listings. It has some useful info beyond what comes available in the National Park Service's new weekly listing announcements. I found this because it was linked from a Syracuse Post-Standard article about the 2 out of 28 that happen to be in Onondaga county. I wonder if there are similar press releases for all NYS new listings. doncram (talk) 18:33, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure that we should be adding these sites to our tables yet. I don't think the fact that the state board has recommended that they be listed on the National Register means that they will be. I suggest we wait until they have been officially announced in the weekly listings published by the NPS. --sanfranman59 (talk) 01:23, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry, i had added 2 of those to the Syracuse list. It has since perplexed me that the National Register weekly announcements did not soon thereafter cover them, giving refnum to add to the 2 infoboxes i created. I had thot they were NRHP-listed, not merely recommended. I simply misread it. Also have not seen any other press releases like that one. doncram (talk) 03:02, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
It looks like you added three to the Orange County list also, Don. Did you add any others? I think they should be removed from the county lists and deducted from the counts in the table on this page and in the New York count at United States National Register of Historic Places listings (if necessary). Do you concur? --sanfranman59 (talk) 09:24, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

new map with NRHPs/area density

Hey, in this edit, User:25or6to4 added new map showing density of NRHP listings by county. Compare to similar maps at List of RHPs in CA and List of RHPs in MS. !Interesting....thanks 5or6to4! doncram (talk) 06:45, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Although from an aesthetic perspective I like this new choropleth map, from a practical perspective (understanding spatial relationships among counties) I'm not so convinced. I'm afraid that my need to know what county is adjacent to what will entail going to yet another page, rather than referring here. Perhaps my needs are less than primary. I think by no I've created about 500(?) NY NRHP stubs? == Publicity for NYS NRHP project ==

Hi there --- take a look at Fix Buffalo Blog to see brief article on "Buffalo and the National Register." This guy is truly dedicated to preserving Buffalo's history and I'm glad this NRHP site could provide gim with some useful information.--Pubdog (talk) 04:22, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Interesting! He doesn't grasp everything exactly perfectly, like describing each of the National Register of Historic Places listings in Buffalo, New York and other individual wikipedia pages as each being a wiki, but sure, it's still good. The publicity could be useful towards getting people to take pics? For Buffalo, it would be great if a local blog could ask for volunteers to contribute a photo of the one NRHP missing a pic? There's one particular columnist in the Syracuse newspaper who focuses occasionally on historic sites, i noticed some time ago. doncram (talk) 16:23, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Don ... did the best I could on a bad connection to get the collaborative point across about the wiki. Oh well. He's promised to send me a pic of the last remaining site in Buffalo and I hope to have the soon. Best--Pubdog (talk) 18:19, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
