Talk:National Register of Historic Places listings in Hood River County, Oregon

Town location issues edit

There was a hidden note in the list article, for Mount Hood, whether the following two were located at the mountain or the community?

Perhaps the locations could be clarified.

Also, the town location given in the table comes in by the list-table generator to be a town name, and any entries which are actually in NRIS listed as "Vicinity of (town)" get stripped of the "Vicinity of" qualifier. The corresponding individual NRHP infobox generator, whose output may appear in the article about a given place, will show the "Vicinity of" qualifier. I think that is okay/best for presentation in table differently than in articles, but others might differ. Anyone should feel free to refine the location info in the list-article to match a location developed more carefully in a corresponding article. doncram (talk) 23:07, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The School House is in Mount Hood the community. Cloud Cap Inn is on Mount Hood the mountain. The Google Earth KMZ files available on the NRIS siteare a good (though imperfect) tool for clarifying situations like this. Ipoellet (talk) 05:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cloud Cap Inn location updated to Mt. Hood the mountain, in the article now; school house left located at Mt. Hood, OR the community. I have to explore my way around Google Earth some day. There's other useful stuff there like NRHP-provided coords info (in layers?) that is better than what is in the NRIS reports we use for these NRHP list-articles, I am told. Thanks! doncram (talk) 06:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Changes by Nyttend of 2010-09-09 edit

I have several concerns regarding Nyttend's edits of September 9, which I detail below and regarding which I have invited Nyttend to a discussion. (Additional concerns to those below have been discussed here and here.) —Ipoellet (talk) 21:20, 16 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Since no other editors have raised issues in the past 4 days, I have gone ahead and implemented my changes as stated below. — Ipoellet (talk) 21:41, 20 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

(1) Conversion of references to "Mount Hood" to "Mt. Hood".
The spelled-out form of "Mount" is clearly preferred by MOS:ABBR, and members of Wikiproject Oregon have in the past put effort into conforming references to Mount Hood to the style manual. Why should this list be different?

(2) Deletion of footnote clarifying between Mount Hood the town and Mount Hood the mountain
It seems to me this is a reasonable attempt to assist readers who might be confused (see e.g. the previous discussion above). Is there a strong reason why this sort of clarifier is undesirable?

(3) Addition of "Mt. Hood National Forest" as the location for the Parkdale Ranger Station
This is simply incorrect - the ranger station is not within the boundaries of the national forest. Yes, it's confusing because the ranger station is a facility supporting the national forest, even though it's not located there.
