Talk:National Foundation for Cancer Research

Notability edit

If this article "may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies and organizations", then it should be deleted, along with the Prize that it awards, along with all references to it on the pages of many individuals.

However, that does not make sense. The references to the prize and the people that reference this page all existed before the creation of this page, some with links to a non-existent page, and others with the name of this foundation, but without the link.

I think that the page should remain. From looking at the previously deleted page, I understand that it was more like an advertisement. That can be prevented. But this is a real foundation, giving out real prizes and awards to help eradicate cancer. One of the current Nobel Prize recipients was even awarded its prize.

Hi @RSStockdale:, my concern regarding notability has to do specifically with the lack of independent and reliable sources on the page. Specifically, the notability guidelines require that specific criteria be met to prove the notability of an organization. As the article currently stands, the only sources listed are the organization's website - which is considered to be neither independent nor reliable. If sources meeting the criteria exist, please do add them to the article. Thanks, Jmertel23 (talk) 22:27, 3 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Jmertel23: I understand. I have found a large number of sites which evaluate a rate various charity organizations. And NFCR is listed on many of them. Would a link to one or more of them be appropriate? RSStockdale (talk) 17:08, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@RSStockdale: It probably wouldn't count as "significant coverage", though it would really depend on how in-depth it is. I would suggest reading WP:ORGCRIT (which you may have done already) - it goes into detail about what coverage is required of an organization for it to meet Wikipedias's notability guidelines.
