Mindmatrix, you've done a great job on cleaning up the references/footnotes, I think. There's a valuable NFB page on the 65th anniversary actitivities that I think could be added as a reference to my new entry at the end of the history section, but I can't figure out how to do it in the same style. "Boards of Canada" reference

This is a bit of trivia that has nothing to do with film-making and I question that it is really of any interest to anyone looking for information about the NFB. It simply clutters up the article. But I'm not so hard-core as to delete it myself.

Call me thick but...

It has a french and an english section, with a linked history that is not devoided of specificities (italics mine). Can anyone tell me what the last part of this sentence means? --Dhodges 23:40, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

I would guess that a French-speaking person wrote that, but didn't translate properly from French. I'll remove it. Mindmatrix 01:11, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Animation

Does anyone recall a weekly festival of international animation that was produced by the NFB? It was broadcast on PBS in the 1970s, at least in the Boston market, on WGBH of Boston. Dogru144 20:38, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Studio D

There's been a lot of activity on articles for Studio D productions. Perhaps this is a good time to expand the section on Studio D which was one of the NFB's most acclaimed and historically significant studios? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 14:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

The vignettes controversy

I think that perhaps the Canada Vignettes subsection of the "Controversy" section is misplaced. There is nothing contained therein that is an example of a controversy. Only a statement that some appeared during commercial breaks, and that they were popular. Any ideas of where this would be better placed? Or perhaps someone out there actually knows of some controversy surrounding these. Physcher (talk) 15:59, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I originally wrote the Vignettes section, but I didn't place it under "Controversy". This seems to be a side-effect of other edits that deleted various non-encyclopedic information. I've promoted the header so the section doesn't fall within the Controversy section. Mindmatrix 16:34, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there was no vignettes "controversy." I'm not even sure that they merit in a mention in the article, as this gives undo weight to a relatively minor effort from the NFB, especially when contrasted with all their landmark films. Per WP:PRESERVE, though, I've moved the vignettes into the History section, at least for now. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure that Vignettes were minor; they were seen by far more people than many other NFB productions because they were aired on national TV. I would suspect that these are some of the most memorable NFB products for the generation of Canadians that saw them air. Mindmatrix 04:17, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Controversy section

Someone wanna explain why the controversy section has the following template:

This section contains information which may be of unclear or questionable importance or relevance to the article's subject matter. Please help improve this article by clarifying or removing superfluous information.

I placed it. And if it's the wrong template, please feel free to remove it. I think my point was that in the 70 year history of the NFB, with so many notable films and filmmakers it seemed odd to me to single out a relatively unknown work like Out: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth as some kind of controversial landmark. As for Abortion: Stories from North and South, I didn't see the need to block quote and link to the American Friends Service Committee, of all people. BTW, truly controversial, notable NFB films, IMO, would be Not a Love Story and The Valour and the Horror (which managed to piss off Cliff Chatterton yet again) — and of course Neighbours (1952 film). Out's message, which is that gay teens should receive acceptance and support, is such a non-controversial one within the Canadian context that its inclusion here is somewhat suspect and NPOV, again, IMO. I originally wrote most of the text for this article in 2005 during the (now defunct) Canada collaboration. I basically searched the web, and added what I could find at the time. There were actually a few sources regarding Out's message, but I didn't link them at the time (for some reason that escapes me). My list wasn't meant to be exhaustive, and I didn't attend to this article much after the collaboration. I can't seem to find the school board quotation, but I recall it was a direct quote from whatever source I was using. I'm indifferent to whether the content is retained or deleted, for what it's worth. Mindmatrix 04:05, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Logo

Why even have a section on the logo if it's not going to mention the resemblance to the CBS logo? It's just the CBS eye with legs. --Thedoorhinge (talk) 05:52, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

King of Blades NFB short

While researching the Canadian-born film producer Harry Saltzman of James Bond fame, I discovered that Saltzman bought the NFB short King of Blades about Donald Jackson and the Ice Follies to be shown worldwide with the Bond film Thunderball which was then in wide theatrical release. cite:Sheffy, Pearl (29 January 1966). Yorkton Film Festival Golden Sheaf Awards for NFB films

I've been working lately on creating award pages for the Yorkton Film Festival Golden Sheaf Awards. So far I completed the categories for Best of Festival, Ruth Shaw (Best of Saskatchewan), Experimental, Drama, Animation & Aboriginal. Within these articles are multiple NFB films that the filmmakers have won awards for. Would there be any objection to my adding a section to include these NFB supported films in this article?
