Talk:National Association of Home Builders

"Chief among NAHB's goals is providing and expanding opportunities for all consumers to have safe, decent and affordable housing."

Please remove any reference to home safety, because that claim is misleading and unsubstantiated. While NAHB promotes the American dream of homeownership and access to housing, nowhere in its mission or vision statements does it mention giving buyers a safe home. In fact, NAHB and its local chapters, including Texas Association of Builders, continue to aggressively oppose automated fire sprinklers and enhanced building codes that are designed to improve the health, safety and welfare of building occupants. Fire safety is one issue of contention; removing responsibility for moisture intrusion and resulting toxic mold is another.

Hundreds of reliable sources confirm the fact that homebuilder associations continue to fight regulatory requirements for fire sprinkler systems, just as they refused to install smoke alarms until new laws forced them to. These sources include the International Code Council (of which builders are members), fire chiefs nationwide, mainstream media, and watch dog organizations like Homeowners of Texas. Here’s just a sampling:

...Sees sales of new single-family homes in the US climbing 19%/ 40% in 2012/ 2013.

Yes I know we are an encyclopedia, not a crystal ball - but people see this sort of stuff in the news every day. Shouldn't we provide more unbiased information on the sources who engage in this sort of crystalballing? Ottawahitech (talk) 18:15, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
