James Naesmyth's 1848 telescope was on display as part of the Cosmos & Culture Exhibition at the Science Museum London in 2009. Exhibition review with picture Article with picture 212.159.72.144 (talk) 23:04, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Examples outside Hawaii? edit

I've just added mention of the Subaru Telescope next door to Keck, and the future TMT is already mentioned. Those are all on Mauna Kea, though - what are good examples outside Hawaii (e.g. US southwest, Chile, Canaries)? Does Hobby-Eberly in Texas have Nas decks? GTC in the Canaries? SALT in South Africa? =Modified Cassegrain or Newtonian? edit

AFAIK, a Cassegrain is defined as having a convex secondary. Would this not make a Nasmyth telescope (as opposed to a Cassegrain with an image plane at the Nasmyth focus) a modified Newtonian as opposed to Cassegrain? Perhaps the confusion could be explained by the fact that some professional Cassegrains and Three Mirror anastigmats having image planes at the Nasmyth focus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.213.16.228 (talk) 10:01, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
