Not notable? edit

I am removing the notability notice for Father Alirio Napoleón Macías until the rationale for non-notability is explained. After all, the onus should be on the parties proposing that the entry be removed. Since I am removing the notability notice, it is appropriate to explain why I feel that the notice cannot be justified. First, I question the arbitrariness or otherwise questionable motive for posting the notice. Is the notice based on the fact that Father Macías is a not an American or widely known in the U.S.? That cannot be a proper basis, because Wikipedia is international in scope. Is the notice based on the fact that Father Macías is most important to a small, third world, non-White country? Clearly a racist, anti-Catholic, or even ethno-centric, motive would not be an appropriate basis for posting the notice. Is the notice based on the fact that Father Macías was not a public official or politician? Father Macías was an activist, and is now viewed as a martyr and folk hero, much like Bobby Sands, and if the European folk hero Sands is "notable" (and this writer believes that he certainly is), then Father Macías must be held to a similar standard and thus be held in the same regard.

On the affirmative case for deeming Father Macías to be notable, I point to the fact that Father Macias continues to be celebrated and remembered in El Salvador and throughout Latin america. There are commemorations of the anniversary of his murder, and the 25th anniversary was deemed among the "Principal Martyrdom Annversaries of 2004." The Salvadoran government has named parks after him, and he continues to inspire the poor communities throughout Latin America. These elements, in addition to the widespread noteriety of Macías' murder in El Salvador and at an international level fulfill the notability requirements in Wikipedia's guidance on that subject and therefore the notability notice posted for Father Macías in April 2007 will be removed, with an instruction that it not be reinstated without a showing that overcomes the arguments stated herein.
