Drivers edit

Lets try to keep this better then the 08 article was pre-release. Only add a driver if you have a reference to prove that that driver will be in the game, like I did with Carl Edwards. Fisha695 (talk) 20:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm happy that my driver will be back in the game. For those of you who don't believe just listen to the podcast around the 5:23 mark and they will confirm that Edwards is in the game. CEfanDP99 (talk) 00:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Drivers Part 2 edit

Cant we add drivers like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Earnhardt Jr., and Ryan Newman. Because i doubt they are going to have a game with out the obvious ones. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.208.247.160 (talk) 17:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Until they are confirmed by EA or in a Video or Screenshot of NASCAR 09 (none of which have been released yet) then NO they can not be listed because it would be speculation (no matter what kind of deals they may or may not have with EA, or no matter how popular they are) Fisha695 (talk) 00:24, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I think drivers are a must for the game and this page and I want to know who is in it and I have came here all the time to look I think it is a stupid Idea this has been on Wiki for years.Tyb —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyb222 (talkcontribs) 03:36, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just so you know the screenshots from NASCAR 09 have shown that drivers: Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Elliot Sadler, Matt Kenseth, David Regan, Paul Menard, and Kurt Busch. Along with others that I cannot make out. Also the video from ESPN have shown Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Dario Franchitti, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin.(Hms88amp) (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.232.161.216 (talk) Reply

Drivers and track lists edit

Hey there, I've come here from WT:VG. Just to inform you, drivers and track lists do not belong on any Wikipedia article. I know that most NASCAR video game article contain them: that is wrong too. It's best to save yourself the effort and not write up any of these lists in the first place. Regards, User:Krator (t c) 09:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well then if we can not place the list of content in the video game then there should not be any articles on any video games, as the driver and tracks included in the game is the content of the game, just like saying in the Grand theft Auto games what city they take place in and what your characters name is. Please show me to the Wiki-Rule that says that correct information on the subject of the article should not be included. If you can do that, then fine, just make sure you go through and delete ALL similar information on Characters that you can play and places where the game takes place from EVERY video game article. Until you can do that then I am putting them back in. Thanks Fisha695 (talk) 17:33, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia simply isn't the place for every detail on the game. Several things fall under game guide content. This includes (but isn't limited to): car lists and other related lists, cheat codes, instructions on how to play and so on. See Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not: not a directory, and not a manual, guidebook or textbook sections. RobJ1981 (talk) 18:06, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Then I expect you and your little group of people to go delete it from EVERY NASCAR game article as well as every other video game article. REAL PEOPLE AND PLACES ARE MORE ENCYCLOPEDIC THEN FAKE PLACES AND PEOPLE IN OTHER VIDEO GAMES. So why should the fake things in other game articles and get to stay but the real things be deleted? I'm sorry but I still fail to see the moronic reasoning behind this. I'll continue to use the example of the GTA games. People do not need to know that the fake Liberty City is based off of the real New York City, but yet I guarantee that will be left in the GTA4 article. Like I said I still fail to see the moronic reasoning behind this... but then again maybe this is why many people are moving towards they own wiki things and away from this site..... Fisha695 (talk) 18:17, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
If we provided a list of every car and street in GTA IV, that would be deleted too. Please see also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. xenocidic (talk) 20:14, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah to me listing the drivers/tracks is no differnt then having the cast/Main characters for an article that talks about a movie/tv show Fisha695 (talk) 20:24, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
They should let us have the list of drivers. It's stupid not to. But whatever, we aren't in control. Not anything we can really do.CEfanDP99 (talk) 18:35, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Let me say first off that I have been monitoring this page even though I have very little interest in NASCAR, let alone a game about it. My knowledge only extends to a few NASCAR racers but I have no clue about their sponsorships or what car company they drive.

The people who are trying to get drivers/tracks added seem to be going about this the wrong way. Calling other editor's reasons "moronic" or typing in CAPS is not going to get your point across. These points/policies are in the guidelines for a reason: so these pages do not become a huge fancruft page. Referencing GTAIV is pointless since GTAIV is not a driving game, more notable than a NASCAR video game, just because GTAIV has it does not mean that it is okay. If anything, the best comparison to this is GT4, which in terms of subject is similar. While the GT4 "list of cars" page was deleted, a "list of tracks" was allowed to exist, even having its own article, List of Gran Turismo courses. However, one could argue that GT4 is way more notable than NASCAR as a video game but I don't know that probably warrants further discussion that I don't really want to get into.

As a compromise, there could be a section about different/new changes/additions for tracks/drivers. For example if Jeff Gordon changes sponsorship and doesn't show up with said sponsor in this game due to the release time of the game, then that could be noted (with citations) or if a course decides to change its track or has made additional changes in-game, then those could be mentioned as well (with citations).

Also I would have to say there is no difference between a "real" person and a "fake" character in terms of notability or reason for inclusion into Wikipedia. Characters played by "real" actors are fictional, but I would note that some are a lot more important than a racecar driver and vice versa. Strongsauce (talk) 14:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Protection requested and accepted. This should stop IP vandalism for the next week. Might have to do the same with the NASCAR 08 article as well. Roguegeek (talk) 23:03, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sent in another request for protection, but for an extended period of time now. Roguegeek (talk) 17:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Listing tacks and drivers is nothing like listing all the streets in GTA4, there is no comparisson to be made. Street names are a trivial part of the game, where as knowing the drivers/characters and tracks/places is vital information. I agree that drivers rankings for tracks should not be in, nor should achievments, or what the sprint challenges include which is was closer to street names. So before making a comparisson of two things at least make sure the two are apples to apples not apples to tanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.140.12 (talk) 15:09, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not trying to add any fuel to the fire here...but Formula One Championship Edition is apparently allowed to have its Teams/Drivers listed and a Track list. Then again those F1 folks are elitists compared to us NASCAR people.--KaseyKahneFan 12:18, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

No Makes in 09 edit

This is just to clear up that 09 will not have manufacturers. EA's community manger announced that in EA's NASCAR Series forum. The link to the thread is: http://forums.ea.com/mboards/message.jspa?messageID=3381923#3381923 CEfanDP99 (talk) 17:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Driver List edit

Regardless of whether or not they are allowed, i don't think that any drivers should be added until an official announcement is made of the game is released due to the fact that just because drivers are often removed right before release. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsebll552 (talkcontribs) 03:01, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd think a list can go up here on the talk page. Some drivers are obviously confirmed and since EA has some of the drivers posted on their "Meet the Drivers" page of the NASCAR 09 website those drivers are going to be in the game. CEfanDP99 (talk) 22:30, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I added the Sprint and Nationwide drivers to the page. Somebody edited the page, despite from where I found screenshots, Kyle Busch and Dario Franchitti were NOT listed, but somebody added them to the Cup drivers page. Also, Marcos Ambrose IS a cup driver in the game, with a screenshot for proof! Nuttreturns —Preceding comment was added at 05:09, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Couple of things here. Kyle is seen in numerous screen shots and videos, and so is Dario. Also can you people not read? A Drivers list IS NOT ALLOWED. Also Screen Shots and pre-release Videos and Videos ARE NOT definite proof a driver is or is not in the game, almost every game since the late 90s has had a screen shot or video come out pre-release that contained a driver that ends up not being in the final game. Fisha695 (talk) 16:36, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

So let me get this straight.....You gotta tell me in CAPS that No drivers are allowed on this page, but every NASCAR game released by EA Sports that is also listed on the wikipedia site can have them???? Why don't you explain that to me instead of disappointed game fans or trying to make them look stupid. It would be a thankful thing to do. And yes, explain it in DETAIL if the caps give you a hint at what I mean. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nuttreturns (talkcontribs) 22:14, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Note the comment above, 'drivers and track lists do not belong on any Wikipedia article. I know that most NASCAR video game article contain them: that is wrong too', WP:LIST, and so on. Lists of NASCAR drivers is simply non-notable - if you think they should be listed, why not list every player in every FIFA game? Fin© 22:23, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK Hot Shot, if that is wrong, then why are the drivers listed in those games still there? Please, explain that one to me. If it's not allowed, then you or somebody else should delete them.....and yes, that is what you are getting at when saying no drivers listed for 09. Go ahead and delete every driver listed dating back to NASCAR 2001. If not, then don't delete my posting of information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nuttreturns (talkcontribs) 22:38, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

First off you must not know much about online etiquette, while a sentence or paragraph in ALL Capital letters is shouting, one or a few words in a row in Capital letters (with or without the bold) is to show emphasis. Now as far as the other articles, the drivers lists were taken out of them in accordance with the rules, however some body must have put them back in. As far as why they are not allowed in, read the sections above and it explains it in detail and gives you links to go to to read the rules which you agree to follow every time you edit anything on Wikipedia. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for driver lists, but they are not allowed and really not needed, especially since as I described above, pre-release screen shots and videos are not proof that a certain driver or team or sponsor or even track will be in the final release version of the video. Also like it says at the top of this edit page "remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes". Fisha695 (talk) 02:52, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am going to delete the other driver lists at some stage, I'm just in finals at the moment ;) Fin© 05:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Soundtrack? edit

OK, this makes absolutly no sense. Who cares what the soundtrack of the game is. People look at these pages to get information which is important about the game. The soundtrack is trivvial, no one buys a game because of the soundtrack. If the drivers/characters and tracks/places that they game cannot be listed by someones interpretation of the "rules" then soundtrack infomrmation has absolutly no place on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.140.12 (talk) 15:05, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Fin© 16:08, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. Sure, no one buys a video game because of its soundtrack, but the creators of games select artists who are typically not yet very well known as a vehicle for getting their music out into the mainstream. I, personally, would find it comforting that in the future someone might think to themselves, "There was that one song on 'NASCAR 09' that I really like, and I would like to buy it, but I can't remember what it is?" Then, that person could come here, to this page, and find out the answer to that question. Or at least have a list of music which they could take to iTunes or amazon.com and preview until they locate the track that they are seeking. Content on the games is encyclopedic, and that includes music as much as it includes drivers, tracks, paint schemes, etc.Kp.murphy (talk) 20:01, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, just because people want content doesn't mean the content should be on Wikipedia. Also, drivers, tracks and paint schemes are actually gamecruft and not encyclopedic. Thanks! Fin© 20:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
People can search google if they want a list of the songs. This was the first result in my search. Thanks! Fin© 20:38, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Achievements edit

Should they be on here? I don't think its really relevant to the article. Fisha695 (talk) 01:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

yeah they should arent those the goals of the game, the main point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.84.234.6 (talk) 00:13, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The achievements shouldn't be included, wikipedia is not a game guide. Fin© 00:18, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
In Response to the unsigned comment, No Achievements are not part of the game at all, they are a Microsoft Gimmick (I don't mean that in a bad way) that's purpose is to try and get people to buy a 360 and when they play they beat certain Microsoft set achievements and they get Gamer Points (or whatever Microsoft calls them). It's basically trying to trick the consumer into thinking that if you buy a 360 and the 360 version of the game that you get more gameplay out of the game, when really you don't., At least thats how I look at it. Opening presentation of racing will return? edit

In the features section someone wrote "The opening presentation of racing will return. (As seen in NASCAR Thunder 2004)" Can someone please clarify what this means? Thanks.--KaseyKahneFan 21:21, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not totally for sure what is meant by that. I don't know if they mean the pre-race ceremonies returning or if they mean something about after you start up the game and you get the little intro. CEfanDP99 (talk) 04:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think it's talking about the opening cutscenes, that's my guess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.32.111.7 (talk) 23:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can I add drivers? edit

Can I add drivers since I bought the game yesterday? I'm gonna add drivers whether you like it or not! I bought the game, so I can. Goku's Rival (talk) 15:25, 12 June 2008 (UTC) Actually I don't really feel like adding drivers. Goku's Rival (talk) 15:27, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Read the whole thing on driver lists. It says NO DRIVER LISTS ALLOWED. CEfanDP99 (talk) 02:16, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Goku's Rival What part of No Drivers List allowed did you not comprehend? I undid your vandalism. Fisha695 (talk) 04:00, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

And even if Driver Lists were allowed get the spelling right. That was horrible. But just to reiterate NO DRIVER LISTS. CEfanDP99 (talk) 15:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Who said I added the list? I decided it would be boring!!!! So shut up, I didn't add crap. Goku's Rival (talk) 03:40, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion for Compromise of Driver's List issue edit

What if we could put external links to driver and/or track lists? Either from other Wikis or verified non-Wiki sites, I've observed that on the third-party Wikis (such as Wurmpedia or Halopedia), some adopt special rules in regards to their specific content. And potentially that could include a Wiki that would allow Driver's List (unless I'm missing a cardinal rule here).

What do you guys think? Flyingcandyman (talk) 22:54, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Look above I fought hard for a drivers list, but when it comes down to it, it is not needed or is not needed to be linked to either. Fisha695 (talk) 01:49, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I didn't see this earlier so I apologize but your arguments above and interpretation would be that no game should have any information about the characters in the game. The drivers in a NASCAR game are the characters ans should have a linked in section at least. The argument stating that it adds nothing can be said of the character lists of other games since they also can be found in a strategy guide or instruction book. Therefore if this is your only reason not for a list all character sections for games need to be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.140.12 (talk) 23:16, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Read the above sections again, thats what I argued, but the rules are the rules and arguing more isn't going to change anything. Fisha695 (talk) 02:48, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nascar 09 PS2 edit

Anyone notice Nascar 09 looks almost EXACTLY like 08 except for the paint schemes, SCS logo, and the repaved Talladega? Also there aren't any scenes with Jeff helping you, just his pic with some text, a lot of it was used in last years game too. THANK GOD THIS IS EA'S LAST NASCAR GAME RacinFreek2448 (talk) 15:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

They can't expand anymore on the PS2. It's basically maxed out. And this is not Ea's last game. EA will make NASCAR 2010 for the PS2 as well as next gen. Their contract will be up but NASCAR will renew with EA. No other company wants to make NASCAR games so it will be EA that makes NASCAR games. CEfanDP99 (talk) 17:21, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

CEfanDP99 is correct. Let's face it, this is actually the ninth EA Sports NASCAR game to appear on the PS2, to which the developers, after making the PS2/Xbox versions their top priority during the last quite of few years, are now just making less fortunate video gamers have a game to play with the updated rosters (if they can not afford a Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Wii). In fact, this year, 2008, is comparable to the year of 2003 because it's features the third full year of the first next-gen console for both video game generations (PlayStation 2: 2003 - 2000 = 3; Xbox 360: 2008 - 2005 = 3) and the second full year of the other two consoles that came out in both generations (GameCube/Xbox: 2003 - 2001 = 2; Playstation 3/Wii: 2008 - 2006 = 2). Also, in 2003, NASCAR Thunder 2004 came out for the Xbox, PS2, PS, and PC. However, for the (original) PlayStation, the only difference between that version and the previous year's version (NASCAR Thunder 2003), for the PS, was just the roster, I believe. So, hopefully this will help you out with your question. By the way, just to let you know, Wikipedia is not a forum. JediYoda1120 (talk) 04:09, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Commenting about various things edit

Listen, that thing (title) Drivers Part 2 makes sense in a way, like Jeff Gordon Should not need a reference to be in the game because LOOK AT THE COVER. He is on there. On the other hand I am dissapointed the car manufacturers will not appear on the cars. It is almost dissapointing to me. Is that weird? And so what will they do with like Elliot Sadlers car, cause doesn't he still carry the Dodge Sponsor? Because I know his teammate Kasey Kahne has a Budweiser sponsor, so. I don't know. P.S. This is EA's last NASCAR game? Who is going to pick up the NASCAR Franchise? To be honest, I don't know if the quality would be as good if like THQ picked up the series. Urh.

Dude (talk) 22:38, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you really know anything about NASCAR you should know that Best Buy is now Sadler's sponsor. And EA will continue to make the game. 2010 is the last on their current contract but no other company really wants to make the NASCAR games. So expect EA to make NASCAR games for many years to come.
