Archea edit

The statement that Archea also begin their protein synthesis with N-Formylmethionine should be changed, as this is not true. One of the factors that separates Archea from Bacteria and makes them more like Eukaryotes is that they begin protein translation with regular methionine not N-Formylmethionine -- Spencer, Sunday May 13, 2007

I agree. So I will change the intro to reflect that formylmethionine is a bacterial phenomenon. Qchristensen (talk) 22:44, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

confuse? edit

Was fMET cut out from polypeptide after the protein synthetize process had done?

For example. If I want 3 amino acids, How many nucleotides I must use?

1.) 12 - AUG XXX XXX UAG (count fmet because it wasn't cut out)

or 2.) 15 - AUG XXX XXX XXX UAG (don't count fmet because it is cut out after the process was end.)

Thank you

And if the codon is 5'UUU AUG UCA 3' how many amino acids is created?

-0 because Aug is not a first code. -1 because start the synthesis at Aug and count fmet -2 because start the synthesis at Aug and don't count fmet

Thank you again ^^

I refer you to the book "Molecular Biology of the Gene" by Watson et. al. since you questions are too broad for this subject. Qchristensen (talk) 22:43, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Derivative edit

How can it be that fMet is a derivative of methionine, but Neomura developed from bacteria. If bacteria is older, shouldn't methionine be a derivative of fMet? --Ysangkok (talk) 07:43, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
