Clean up

edit

What exactly is the justification for the cleanup tag at the top? Can someone outline what needs to be cleaned up? If not, then I think it can be removed. --Howrealisreal 13:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I find that the history section needs work. Myrtle Avenue is like Broadway, New Utrecht Avenue or 4th or 5th Avenues in Brooklyn, similar in transportation and commercial importance, but not as historically rich as Broadway or 125th Street in Manhattan or Roosevelt Avenue in Queens (I'm surprised that article hasn't been started yet). It's a road in which neighborhoods have been built up upon, not unlike other once rural roads in NYC, and the road incidentally has transport and pop culture significance (this is now why I would keep the article from deletion), that otherwise makes it as typical as a road can be.
What you wrote for Brooklyn is too similar to this, but I didn't raise a copyvio flag because, albeit poor, it does paraphrase the source.
I do believe there has been a stigma attached to Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn because of the Murder Avenue nickname. But the gentrification is not unique to the avenue; it's entire neighborhoods. I also find the history at the above link to be mostly relevant for the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill neighborhoods, not the avenue itself, even though the page states that it's about the avenue's history. Also as a related point, any business improvement district wants to beautify and promote its businesses, and thus should not be expanded upon in an aricle like this. I'm looking at the Bushwick, Brooklyn article as one of my next major tasks for cleanup, and I will investigate about East Williamsburg as well. I am not a historian, but I am interested enough to try to improve the quality of articles I can work with, and at the same time try to determine what's notable and NPOV, and what's not. That's what I like to bring to Wikipedia.
One final comment: this article was created by Eddie Segoura, now blocked. I don't know what his intentions for this article were, but he seemed to start to put all the Business improvement districts in NYC into Wikipedia. Tinlinkin 21:17, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I get what you're saying. Essentially, my intention was just to save the article from deletion; I tried to build a skeleton of an article with some meat on the bones. The focus does get skewed and the tone sounds inflated at places— maybe I'll change some things around. I guess I'm now personally interested in Myrtle Ave, although it wasn't my initial intention to be a major contributor here. My scope on the Ave is inherently limited being that I live (and spend most of my time) in Brooklyn, and out in Sunset Park no less. The things you expressed at the AfD indicate that you have a good perspective on the Ave beyond my viewpoint, thus you should add them. --Howrealisreal 23:55, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
