Talk:Myobatrachidae

Merging edit

Does anybody disagree to the merging of the sub-family articles into this article? We would have a list of all the genera in this article, all under the heading of each sub-family. E.g.

Myobatrachinae

Crinia (Tschudi 1800s)

Rheobatrachinae
Rheobatrachus (Heyer and Liem, 1976)

Except, of course, it would be properly formatted and complete. This would make Myobatrachinae and Limnodynastinae redirect to Myobatrachidae, but Rheobatrachinae will still redirect to the gastric-brooding frog. At the moment, the sub-family articles are pretty annoying. All the genera are split, and the sub-families don't really have enough information to justify their own article. If this article gets too large (which I don't see happening any time soon), we could always split it. --liquidGhoul 04:03, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have done this now, so if anyone has objection, please bring them up here. Thanks --liquidGhoul 14:47, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Split or rename? edit

Both Frost's Amphibian Tree of Life and Amphibian Species of the World elevate Limnodynastinae to family status and place Rheobatrachus in Myobatrachidae with no special status. The genera in this article now form Frost's superfamily, Myobatrachoidea. OTOH Wiens "A large-scale phylogeny of Amphibia" has Myobatrachinae and Limnodynastinae within a Myobatrachidae that corresponds to this page's circumscription.
