Not a Description

This isn't really a description of the book: it's just a rehashed version of David Foster Wallace's description of the book from his E Unibus Pluram essay. I'm not even sure if the person who wrote this has read 'My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist'. (no sig)

I haven't read the book, but I read about it in DFW's "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never do Again," and went to the wikipedia page in order to gain a more basic understanding of what he was talking about. I edited the portion on DFW's essay, because whoever wrote the initial entry was just plain wrong. It wasn't the overuse of irony that DFW says makes the work "dead on the page" (the original poster wrote "dead on arrival," which is just plain wrong), although he does criticize it (the overuse of irony). Instead, it's the miserable attempt at satirically attacking a medium that already pokes fun at itself that causes the text to fail, whether intentionally or not.

Also, to whoever wrote this article, what is a poetic style? Use terms that are defined, and if you don't, please define your terms. This is only one example, but your entry is entirely vague and painfully reductionist.--The Iron Cage (talk) 04:37, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
