This seems to be a poorly done translation from Russian sources of dubious character.--itpastorn (talk) 19:08, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

edit

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:50, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Numero symbol in title

edit

The page title guideline WP:TITLESPECIALCHARACTERS strongly advises against using symbols in the titles of articles, indicating to avoid them and never use them. The Numero sign ("№") is a unicode letterlike symbol and not an ordinary Latin character. It cannot be typed on an ordinary keyboard and only appears to be used in one source, in Russian text. Upon translation to English, the symbol is translated to the abbreviation "No." The Manual of Style does permit acronyms to be used in titles, but only where the acronym is commonly used in place of the organisation's name. In this case, the symbol appears to be short for the word "number", as it is followed by the digit 3. The corresponding article in Russian uses the name "Karachay Jamaat" and notes that the organization is sometimes called "Muslim Society No. 3". Translation software consistently translates the Numero symbol, if used in Russian, to the latin abbreviation "No." in English. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 11:53, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

The Islamic militant group Karachay Jamaat does not have an article at present, but it is mentioned in the articles about the February 2004 Moscow Metro bombing and the August 2004 Moscow Metro bombing, both articles also say the organisation is "(also known as «Muslim Society No 3»)". - Cameron Dewe (talk) 11:56, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
