Proposal to merge Philippine music here

I suggest that Philippine music be merged here. If you compare the two, you will find that they are very similar and talk about the same thing. Really, why have two separate articles on the same topic? Handtell 10:38, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

External link to streaming music removed

I removed a link that points to streaming OPM music, as per this policy. The site in question does not have any information as to whether all music were used under terms of Fair Use, so as a precaution against contributory infringement I reverted the page to delete the link. --- Tito Pao 13:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

  • External link revisted

On the contrary, the link you happened to remove (http://bestfilipinomusic.com) included the following notice you overlooked at the bottom of the page: "Images and music are the copyright of their respective authors/publishers" This is equivalent to the notice, "All songs & lyrics are property and copyright of their owners", found in the existing external links for http://www.filipinomusica.com/ and "The lyrics may be copyrighted by their own artists and composers" for http://himig.net

Interrupting the comment by 70.137.176.38 to alert folks that -- quite apart from being a copyright violation site, himig.net just tried to place a virus on my computer when I was checking it. Piano non troppo (talk) 19:24, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

While the link you removed provides streaming short low quality OPM music for the purpose of directly supporting Filipino artists and the Filipino music industry through legitimate music sales, filipinomusica.com and himig.net includes full-length streaming OPM music through embedded Flash objects and links to full-length Karaoke videos from YouTube.com that literally contributes to free copywritten material that negatively impacts Filipino artists and the Filipino music industry. Tito, please do the honor of reinforcing consistency by also removing filipinamusica.com and himig.net or restoring the external link to bestfilipinomusic.com. 70.137.176.38 (talk) 06:49, 14 May 2008 (UTC) Jose, 5/13/08 fuckin' shit.... this is not real dont trust....:D

Proposal to merge OPM here

I propose that OPM be merged here. The content at the current page is too little to merit its own article. --Bentong Isles 02:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Not a good idea, IMO. "OPM" (as it is commonly known in the Philippines) is technically a small part of Filipino music. For instance, would you apply the label OPM to classical Filipino music (by, say, Nicanor Abelardo and Jose Maceda)? Would you also apply the label OPM to ethnic and folkloric music? OPM is more applicable to 20th century pop music, notably from the 1970s onward (when the label "OPM" first surfaced in common usage) --- Tito Pao 10:30, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
i think they should stay separate lolAustralian Jezza 02:58, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
I've changed the OPM article to a redirect, the two articles had little variation in content. Neither has any sources, and the OPM article had also become loaded with external links. - Optigan13 06:40, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

European influences

Sorry, it was causing me some mental confusion:

You are failing to provide the rest of "European sounds" mentioned, first paragraph. See, you say it's a mixture of European, American and indigenous sounds, right. Then you ellaborate on rock and roll, hiphop (bwaaaaaaaaaaa ha ha ha), and the rest... But you only mentioned Spain in regards to the "European" sounds... Please enlighten us with your diarrhea of knowledge and wisdom, or let us negotiate a settlement for perjury:fuckin' shit... not true....dont believe in this page... bitch!

- Was the author of this noble article pending further documentation on the "European" contributions and he/she failed to note so? - Did the author lack of further European contributions than 'Spanish'? - Were you propagating the hispanophobic speech of individuals for whom it is better to say "European" than "Spanish"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.237.40.110 (talk) 01:35, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Electronic music...

This article pretends that electronic music started to appear in the Philippines in 2000... Absolutely not true, David Medalla composed electronic music in 1959 in the Philippines already and there were other artists way before the 2000's who played various forms of electronic music (noise, electro-acoustic, ambient, techno, ebm, etc... ---Cdrk 13:25, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Critique

Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference?

For the whole Wikipedia page, I thought that everything was referenced in the end but I really did not see that many citations.

Is information biased?

Yes, I believe that this page stated facts that they saw in their references, they did not try to persuade that different music were better than other music made in the Philippines — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pcave2 (talkcontribs) 17:45, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
