Murray Barracks was for many years the headquarters of the Hong Kong Signal regiment, part the British Army's Royal Corps of Signals.
In the 1950s, it also housed the Hong Kong Troop of the 7th Independent Line Squadron, who were responsible for the military telephone communications in the colony. Two other troops were stationed in Kowloon and the New territories.
