Missing white woman syndrome

How does this case apply to “missing white woman syndrome” when this victim was white? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7C:941D:DB00:5037:58B0:2E29:F479 (talk) 03:35, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not about the murder edit

Almost all of this article is not actually about the murder of Hannah Williams, it is about how the murder of Hannah Williams was treated differently to that of Danielle Jones and reasons why this might be. This discussion is actually more encyclopaedic than the murder itself, but it isn't what the article purports to be about. Either the article should be moved to a new title that reflects the content (and include background on the other murder) or the discussion should be moved to a new article, so this title can be used for an article about the murder of Hannah Williams. This is actually about the murder and the sources are about the murder the case is also contained within coverage of Missing White Woman Stndrome. The notability of the murder is the links to Missing White Woman Syndrome.--Lucy-marie (talk) 18:20, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your comment suggests the murder has no notability independent of Missing white woman syndrome, in which case the coverage of it should be at that article, or possible an article about Murders of Hannah Williams and Danielle Jones, rather than it's own article? The coverage of the individual case is one of the factors giving the case individual notability. Also the links with the other cases carried out by the murderer. The links to multiple other cases and not just one and missing white woman syndrome make this individually notable. if it was only linked to missing white woman or the murderer then individually it would be not notable on its own. Due to the complexities and interlinking create individual notability.--Lucy-marie (talk) 21:41, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't quite understand what you're trying to say here. As I read it you're saying it's individually notable because it's not individually notable, but notable because it's intertwined with the notability of other cases? Thryduulf (talk) 00:18, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's notable due to its interlinking with a variety of other issues. If it was just a murder with no links to any other issues it would not be notable as this is not a it would violate WP:NOT#NEWS. It also cannot be merged with another article due to the innapropriatness and inability to cover the issues successfully.--Lucy-marie (talk) 11:41, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have no strong views about whether or not the article should exist, but if it really is about the "Murder of Hannah Williams" rather than about "Missing white woman syndrome", it should at least give the date and circumstances of her disappearance, the date and circumstances of the discovery of her body, and some details about the arrest, trial, and conviction of Robert Howard. At the moment, it doesn't even give his name. Girlwithgreeneyes (talk) 12:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The article then simply needs updating and expanding.--Lucy-marie (talk) 12:55, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've just expanded the article with a section on Howard and condensed the material using her murder as an example of uneven coverage of missing people. I hadn't seen this section, which had evidently already led to improvement; my impetus was news coverage of a second inquest on the death of another teenager whose body has never been found, and it turned out that we had nothing at all about that case or about his previous criminal history, although we were citing sources that gave plenty of information. Williams's case does seem to have attracted a lot of attention as an example of news media neglect, but I agree the article was overbalanced and have tried to remedy that. We were not even mentioning in the intro that anyone had been found guilty of Williams's death. Yngvadottir (talk) 00:56, 22 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
