Rights to Muntz Metal

The Muntz family sold the rights to Muntz Metal in the 1950s? Can someone explain to how a patent can be enforced for over 100 years. Rsduhamel 21:00, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The original quote was "Muntz Metal was sold to another company in the 1950s so it's no longer in the family but it's still a part of our family's heritage." Perhaps it refers to something else, such as a company called MM? Andy Mabbett 14:00, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Seems confused - there seems to be quite a bit of evidence that the company was absorbed first by Elliots and then IMI in the 20's. IMI also bought a firm called Muntz Plastics in 1972, so I'm not sure if this is some family history getting scrambled. I've tried to expand the corporate stuff, as it's vaguely interesting and adds 'colour'. FlagSteward 01:32, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Properties of Muntz Metal?

It would be useful to know why Muntz Metal stopped being used. Presumably it is more durable than anti-fouling paint and therefore requires less maintenance and avoids having to dry dock a boat periodically? If so, one might expect it to be worth using MM today given that the cost of taking a cruise ship, container ship, or ferry out of action for a few days to repaint can cost £millions.
