MS has effects that extend beyond simply the loss of the myelin sheath. Some axons are shown to be destroyed, likely as a result of inflammatory processes in the overlapping myelin. Thus, while the innate cause of multiple sclerosis is not established, axon loss certainly could be a contributor in its visible functional deficits. Mp214 (talk) 15:50, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
