Talk:Mullahcracy

Mullah is a pejorative and should not be used in this way edit

This article should be deleted or at least re-titled. "Mullahcracy" is not an accepted part of common knowledge; it is a very recent epither coined to malign the political system in Iran (and Taliban Afghanistan) by right wing US organisations, and is not entirely free of racist Islamophobic connotations.

The entire article makes no reference to "Mullah" other than the Heritage Foundation article link at the bottom of the page: both the Foundation and the article are less than "neutral" in this matter, to say the least. "Mullah" is a pejorative abbreviation of the Muslim honorific Mawlana or Mawlvi, and is offensive to many Muslims. It should not be used without pointing this out; along the lines, for example, of the Wiki entry on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigger">"Nigger"</a>:

Mullah is a term used to refer to Muslim scholars trained in traditional Islamic sciences. Its use by non-Muslims, particularly <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamophobia">Islamophobic</a> white people, is regarded as offensive in most social contexts.

The Wiki entry on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullah">Mullah</a> should also be deleted or merged with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maulana">Maulana</a> (better spelled as Mawlana), where it can be noted that the </a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Islamic_Urdu_honorifics">Islamic honorific</a> Mawlana or Mawlvi is pejoratively abbreviated as Mulla or Mullah.

Don't even understand why this is here. Any reason we shouldn't simply rename this to Wilayat-Al-Faqih? DJ Clayworth 19:37, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Velayat faqih edit

Indeed the acrticle used to be titled "Guardianship of the Islamic jurists" which is translation of "Velayat faqih". Comparing the English usage of "mullahcracy" and "Velayat (Wilayah/Veilayat/etc.) Faqih" on google, the results is overwhelmingly in supoort of latter term. It was done by User:Patchouli, who tends to move, merge and significantly change Iran-related articles with his own POV, without any form of discussions, and in his reverse notes, has accused others of: "Agents of the Islamic Republic need to stop. Despite your salary, the campaign to disseminate falsehood is tough"?!

Since this was done without any form of discussions or consensus, I will move it back to its previous state. If he insists on this position, he must discuss this first before any changes.--Gerash77 23:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
