The population of 1,270,854 is for the whole region. (see Mtwara Region) The population for the Mtwara district is 336,302 (same source). The population for the city of Mtwara seems to be difficult to pin down from the Tanzanian census statistics website unless you know precisely which wards make up the city. Anybody else know how to get a sensible figure or which wards to choose?
