This colorful character sheds light on the early history of Seattle. From an economic standpoint, her enterprises helped accumulate money from sailors and lumbermen in Seattle, instead of other towns, which may be part of why Seattle's the major city on the sound instead of Everett or Olympia. There seems to be some earlier characters in England called "Mother Damnable" cf.
