Re-adding the section on the self proclaimed olivine capital, as it is fact, The town has welcoming signs saying exactly this.

Also, Re-added the part about the bluestone buildings dating from the 1850s.

Relevance of the town's name

I'm very dubious about the assertion that the word Mortlake means 'dead water'! I'd be more convinced that the town was named after the English place of the same name, a district in Greater London (the immediate area has many town names borrowed from England, such as Hexham, Framlingham, Darlington, etc). As such, the word is probably from old english rather than some portmanteau of imagined french or latin and modern english. Further to that, I doubt the original meaning of the word (whatever its origin) has any bearing on the history of this town, so it's also an irrelevance in the article. Amenities

Mortlake has a range a health facilities and amenities. The hospital was closed about 1997 and the existing building was converted to a health centre, part of the Terang-Mortlake Health Centre. It has out-patient nursing facilities, as well as visiting nurses, a maternal and child health nurse, physiotherapist, women's health nurse, dietician, podiatrist and massage services. Tai Chi for arthritis classes are held regulary. The health centre contains the adult day centre and a medical clinic. The town also has a chemist, and St John's Ambulance and Ambulance Victoria service. Abbeyfield House is a large and growing aged care facility.

The town also has a branch of the Moyne Shire Council offices, with the main office situated in Port Fairy. There is also a Mortlake Visitor Information Centre and a library which is part of the Corangamite Regional Library Corporation. The newspaper, the Mortlake Dispatch is published weekly.

The Mortlake SES Unit and Mortlake CFA and RFB are run by local volunteers.
