Talk:Morocco at the 2006 Winter Olympics

Latest comment: 18 years ago by Tone

Morocco weren't marching in, and Yahoo! has no registered competitors for Morocco. I don't think they will compete, but I suppose we can have the article just in case. 20:26, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I created an article because it was listed at the WP site. If they don't compete, we can still delete it. --Tone 20:36, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
True. They're not listed in the official PDF file [1] - which even has the total number of athletes on the bottom - so I don't think Morocco will compete. Sam Vimes 20:42, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, let's delete it. --Tone 20:52, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Right. Since you're the only contributor, would you mind put up a sign with {{db|Author requests deletion (CSD G7)}? That way it doesn't stick around for five days and fill up AFD. Sam Vimes 20:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see you've done so already. A reason would be good, though, just in case the deleting admin doesn't look at the talk page. Sam Vimes 20:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the deletion tag. According to the official website of the 2006 Winter Olympics, Morocco will compete (see [2]). It's true that they didn't show up at the opening ceremony, but I don't know why. The two Moroccan athletes at the Games are Samir Azzimani and Sarah Ben Mansour, both in alpine skiing. They're not listed to take part in any events, unlike almost all the other alpine skiers (see e.g. Romania), nor are they listed on the official list of NOCs. Also note that Jamaica are on the official page, even though they've never been near qualifying [3] - again without any listed athletes. 22:23, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
I guess we just wait for the event to happen and have a look if they compete. As easy as that. No need to complicate. --Tone 22:26, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
All right as a compromise. I'd rather not have it on the template of nations, though. Sam Vimes 22:27, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to remove it. I added Morocco because the Moroccan Olympic Committee has registered the athletes with the IOC, and they are on the list of competing nations provided by the organizing committee. Aecis Mr. Mojo risin' 22:36, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done. *waits for egg to hit face when Mr. Azzimani does turn up* ;) Sam Vimes 22:38, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to the official site http://www.torino2006.org/ENG/IDF/ATH/X01_AFR.html, Morocco did not compete. So what shall we do with this page now? --Tone 21:54, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since I spotted other articles of the kind, I suggest we merge all the articles about non-competing states into one (Mexico, Morocco, Jamaica... the one that were considered to participate, of course). Suggested title: Nations not competing at the 2006 Winter Olympics. --Tone 22:06, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

If we create such an article, I would prefer a different title. "Nations not competing at..." doesn't specify that the article is about countries that were supposed to be at the Games, but that didn't participate after all. In fact, the title opens up the way to just about every country, since a great many countries were not at the Games. Aecis Mr. Mojo risin' 18:52, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the page should just be AfD. To have articles about nations that didn't compete in the Olympics would be crazy. And, there would be huge disagreement about what nations should have pages and what nations shouldn't have pages. We should just AfD this page, the Jamaica page, the Mexico page, etc. Sue Anne 19:16, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will afd it. Let's see the opinion. --Tone 19:45, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
