Extended Play edit

  Resolved

Since this isn't an album, this classifies as an Extended Play (EP). What the hell is a "playlist" anyway? No one uses that term to describe records! --Bobtinin (talk) 04:57, 19 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure about this "resolved" tag; it seems like the issue is still there. The playlist article doesn't describe anything like this release. Therefore I don't think it meets Wikipedia's criteria for a playlist, even if it meets Drake's. I suggest removing all references to "playlist" unless it's quoting Drake or the title... or perhaps the playlist article should be edited to include this sort of thing, if a good source for that can be found.-Teiladnam (talk) 14:23, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Most sources describe it as a playlist. Has anybody found it available to purchase? If that is the case, it appears to be more like a mixtape. But at this rate we need to wait for the reviews to appear, before we can make a definite call on that one. Karst (talk) 15:05, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Available on iTunes. Definitely a mixtape. It's ridiculous to call this a "playlist" just because Drake is calling it as such. A "playlist" would normally have multiple artists having solo tracks. This was the rumor before More Life dropped, but in the end, only Sampha and Skepta got tracks to themselves. 20 out of the 22 tracks are Drake's, so it'd better fit as a mixtape. Aria1561 (talk) 15:45, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see. Then yes, I would agree, it should be described as a mixtape. However, we need the sources that confirm this. Hence the mention of reviews. Karst (talk) 23:01, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Karst: and @Aria1561: But the sources called it a playlist instead an album, if it supported by reliable sources should it stay as a playlist? TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 02:39, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Compilation album vs. playlist edit

What's the difference between the two? Could there please be some clarification.

Good question, never seen the term "playlist" used. --Bobtinin (talk) 05:09, 19 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I love drake, but he made this shit up. This is a compilation album and should be stated as such.

This is a playlist. Clearly stated by Drake himself and by all the samples. Plus a comp and a playlist are essentially the same thing. Truther1515 (talk) 22:34, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Genre edit

I propose the genre of More Life be written as: Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall on the infobox. These are the three main genres contained in More Life, as was the case with Views SomewhereInLondon (talk) 14:56, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

The cited source does not support your proposal. Rather, it says that the album contains songs showcasing a wide variety of genres, but it does not say that the album has an overall genre. Binksternet (talk) 21:32, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Binksternet: Do these sources [1] [2] [3] [4] help classified being a hip hop, R&B, dancehall and Afrobeat project. I did read these sources but I like to hear a second opinion of this. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 21:33, 27 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I agree the cited sources do help it being classified as a hip hop, R&B, dancehall and Afrobeat project. Their is a general consensus I feel that while a variety of genres have been used in More Life, those 4 genres have featured as a thread throughout the whole project. SomewhereInLondon (talk) 11:11, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Pinging @Cornerstonepicker: in to this discussion, if you see this, please response your opinion about these sources are reliable enough for the genres of the playlist or mixtape. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 07:38, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
The listed sources generally agree on R&B/Hip-hop but they don't all say dancehall or Afrobeat. Binksternet (talk) 12:44, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Binksternet: So it's OK to added R&B/Hip-hop in the Infobox right? And I have find more reliable sources [5] [6] [7] to make sure they are correct about dancehall or Afrobeat. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 08:49, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've noticed two things: quoting Spin "That audacity, of course, is his abandonment of the American rap/R&B binary and embrace of the pan-global sounds of the black diaspora: grime, afrobeats, dancehall, and house music, at least so far." - so classifying it as only R&B hiphop takes issue with that ; and "pop" is as mentioned as afrobeat and others like grime, Southafrican house. I'd just add House to R&B and HH, unless world music is eligible. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 17:08, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Cornerstonepicker: So are you saying only Hip-hop and R&B should be added in the infobox? TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 15:25, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@TheAmazingPeanuts: It should but as I said some sources say it's not only a HH/R&B record. It's hard to pick a third genre. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 23:31, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Cornerstonepicker: What about this source [8], it says something about dancehall but I'm not sure. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 23:08, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@TheAmazingPeanuts: "dancehall production", for me it's ok, R&B / Hip hop / dancehall. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 05:51, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Cornerstonepicker: Added genres with reliable sources with this edit, you can see it yourself. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 04:43, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Koavf, reason for the template says playlist instead of album because it is not supported by sources, the artist describes the project as a playlist [9] [10], though some publications have referred to it as a mixtape [11] [12] [13]. Should the infobox keep as playlist edit

The consensus is that More Life should be called a mixtape in the infobox.

There have been several editors argue "playlist" should be added in the infobox, because Drake himself called it a playlist and was supported by reliable sources [15] [16], but playlist is not a valid album type for the infobox, you can see it right here. I think it should be called mixtape in the infobox because some publications have referred to it as a mixtape, including Metacritic [17] [18] [19]. • Mixtape - A request to comment was left on my talk page. We go with what the majority of sources say. The article can address the debate on whether it's a playlist, mixtape, EP, compilation album, or any other potential decision. Infoboxes are summary of the contents of the article, not a place to rehash the article's content. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:16, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ajlantarctica: No sources calling this a album, it's just your opinion. Did you even pay attention that most editors have voted as a mixtape, not an album. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 14:57, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Billboard and Associated Press are important sources.. but will his next album be called his sixth? Variety: "“More Life” is technically a mixtape". For the Recording Academy is a new format and either an album or a mixtape. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 00:46, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Cornerstonepicker: Are you saying that these sources don't explicitly stated it's an album? TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 20:41, 23 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Since "album" is generic, https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/album: "a collection of several pieces of music, made available as a single item on a CD, the internet, etc.", it can be used to describe a great many things. So the Billboard article calls it an album, but not a studio album. It also discusses that Drake calls it both a mixtape and a playlist. So +1 for playlist and mixtape. And with all the SPAM on that entry, I hope I never have to go to that site again. pigeonsandplanes.com is an opinion piece that discusses why the "mixtape" isn't called an album. +1 for mixtape. Pitchfork suggests that he selected playlist since "small" rappers call their collections mixtapes and he didn't want that term: +1 for playlist and mixtape. thefader.com doesn't use either term and simply uses the generic "album" , not studio album. okayplayer.com +1 for playlist. forbes.com +1 for playlist. hypbeast.com: Although, technically, it’s a playlist. +1 for playlist. consequenceofsound.net +1 for playlist. slate.com +1 for playlist and they say it's his best album because it has the least of Drake on it. Seems like the writer is full of sour grapes. http://theboombox.com has all sorts of problems. First, they assume that the iTunes Store is a chart. We don't. See WP:BADCHARTS. It then goes on to say that it was the album of the year. Makes sense. It's also likely the playlist of the year and the mixtape of the year.
Essentially I'm seeing a lot of commentary that complain about the use of the term rather than alalyzing the situation, they're putting into a 20-year-old box and labelling it that. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:00, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Mynameisajltheone: You may have added too many sources to prove your point, and it might be hard from other editors to read all those sources and are busy with other things then this. As Walter Görlitz pointed out, the Billboard article calls it an album, but not a studio album. It also discusses that Drake calls it both a mixtape and a playlist. There are sources calling the project a album but not an studio album, there are also sources calling the project a playlist, mixtape or both. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 03:09, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see, there are several problems with these sources, and most of them refer to the project as an album, playlist and/or mixtape. I guess I did not thoroughly analyze these websites. We should keep the page at mixtape unless sources call his next album his sixth. Mynameisajltheone (talk) 16:45, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Mynameisajltheone: I agreed, Jc86035 and Cornerstonepicker also pointed this out too, until Drake releases his next project, we don't know if this is a album or not. For now, let's just called it a mixtape. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 11:30, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Mixtape per sources, and change to studio album only if future sources call his next album the sixth. Jc86035 (talk) 10:16, 24 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Mixtape per above. I can't believe this type of debate even exists. editorEهեইдအ😎 00:42, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
