I'm not sure if this is good enough to add to the article, but one parent says that students who speak French at the Japanese school lose merit points.

"Mes propres enfants passent leurs samedis au Hoshuko, école japonaise de Montréal. Le reste de la semaine, ils font leur scolarité régulière en français dans des écoles montréalaises, comme la plupart de leurs camarades du Hoshuko. Vu qu'en plus une bonne moitié de ces derniers sont issus de familles mixtes, la tentation pourrait être forte pour plusieurs de glisser du japonais au français même au Hoshuko. Mais les enseignants de cette institution interdisent la chose en classe, et les récalcitrants sont sanctionnés (perte de «points de mérite»). Voilà une politique sérieuse. Use of a master's thesis as a source edit
Re: Wikipedia_talk:Reliable_sources#Master's_theses_should_also_be_ruled_"reliable"_if_they_are_the_only_form_of_academic_scholarship_talking_about_a_subject, multiple users stated that (ordinarily) master's theses weren't
- Published academic documents: a conference paper and a chapter in a published academic monograph, both use Yoshida's master's thesis as a source
- Yoshida herself is a co-author of one of the chapters citing the master's thesis.
- The content from Yoshida supports/supplements, rather than introduces undue weight to "new" aspects/opinions: this is reflected in the thesis author also being a co-author of the book chapter.
If the master's thesis was inappropriate to use as a source on Wikipedia, wouldn't it be inappropriate to use it as a source in the book, which would make it not-reliable? But then the academic book reviews don't seem to criticize such things, so I don't think it's in our place to say a master's thesis, that is cited by an academic book, that also supplements/expands what is already said in the academic book (which originates from the thesis), is then not a WP reliable source.
I am, however, happy to use the published works (or rather information from the thesis in the published works) more often than the thesis directly. I do agree that the published works should be used when possible. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:01, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
