Sentence does not make sense edit

"Bile salts stored in the gall bladder empty [sic] the contents of the stomach into the small intestines where most fats are broken down." Impossible; please clarify.Autodidact1 (talk) 18:07, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

-Agreed, this is not how known vertebrate digestive systems function. Food is released into the duodenum from the pyloric valve of the stomach. The presence of lipids in the chyme stimulates the release of cholecystokinin by duodenum epithelial tissue which makes its way, via the bloodstream, to the gall bladder. Cholecystokinin causes the gall bladder to contract, which causes the common bile duct to be filled with bile and pressurized, forcing the bile down to the ampulla of vater and out the sphincter of oddi into the duodenum. Bile's primary purpose is to act as a detergent to help reduce the size of fat and oil globules in the digestive tract to increase their surface area. (source example:https://courses.washington.edu/conj/bess/bile/bile.html). Further, the pancreas uses a branch of the same pathway to release a cocktail of enzymes (lipases, amylases, and proteases) to further digest the chyme, as well as sodium bicarbonate to neutralize the acidic pH of the chyme resulting from stomach digestion (hydrochloric acid adjusts stomach PH to allow stomach peptases/proteases to function properly). It is observed that the majority of digestion and absorption of lipid substances is accomplished in the duodenum for most species. At any rate, the gall bladder/bile duct/bile substance are not known to be involved in the release of chyme into the duodenum from the pyloric sphincter of the stomach, but rather the other way around; lipids in the chyme released from the pyloric valve into the duodenum stimulate the release of bile from the gall bladder. --Takophiliac (talk) 15:30, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead and fix it, not sure when that was inserted anyway. Montanabw(talk) 08:14, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'd rather you or Takophiliac correct it. Autodidact1 (talk) 06:46, 22 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
