Talk:Monk painters

Scope

Surely there have been monks as artists throughout the history of China as well as monks of other religions throughout the world. The scope of this article is too broad; given the title, one could write about any monk who ever picked up a paintbrush or other art medium throughout all of history. It is not clear what criteria have been chosen to limit the scope of the article to these particular monks. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 12:30, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I tend to agree; I moved the article to its current title becuase that was the closest translation to the original title of 僧侣画家 , but it could definitely stand to be renamed. Possible alternatives might be Monk painters in China, Chan Buddhist painting, Chan monk painters, Chinese Chan Buddhist painting or something similar. The original page creator seemed to have given up halfway through a sentence, so I'm not sure what their eventual intent was, and expanded the page with what I could find. I was going to suggest a title such as Buddhist art in China, but some checking revealed that there is already a China section in the Buddhist art article. I would suggest that this article might properly be merged into that one. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 14:23, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I think I could get behind that proposal; I'm not sure there are enough sources (in a language I can read, anyway) to poulate an entire article on Chinese painting monks. Yunshui (talk) 13:33, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
