Lifespan

• The reference in the article, (Robert J. Wiese & Kevin Willis. "Calculation of longevity and life expectancy in captive elephants." Zoo Biology. Vol. 23, No. 4, pp.365-73 (July 28, 2004)), directly addresses the question of life expectancy for both wild and captive elephants. If you have another reference which conflicts with those findings, it should be cited along with any change to the figures given in the article. --Dystopos 04:59, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

• Further reading indicates that 44.8 years is the current estimate of the average life span of elephants. The figures of 70 or 80+ years are not averages, but extremes. --Dystopos 22:40, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
