Cup noodles

article says sale of cup noodles started 1971; then says cup noodles invented 1972. which is correct date?

Origin?

OK, I can see lots of nationalist hachets being waved about. So were his parents originally Japanese or Taiwanese, and was his Chinese name Wu Bai-fu (吳百福) just a name of convenience? Jpatokal 04:33, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Born in Taiwan (when it was occupied by Japan), later moved to Japan. It's hard to associate him with the term Chinese. I think Taiwanese-Japanese would be more suitable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.250.27 (talk) 02:55, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Noodle or Noodles

When was the name of the Cup NOODLE product changed to Cup NOODLES? I remember it years ago as Cup NOODLE, one of those worlds funniest TV commercials shows ran several of the Japanese commercials for it, all that was said in them was (oddly, in English) at the end "Hungry? CUP NOODLE!" with a cup of it in a hand, shoved forward to fill the screen. One of them had a caveman dragging some big animal before doing the end bit. Anyone else ever hear the joke about there being only one noodle in Cup NOODLE?

Ando Not True Inventor of Modern Instant Noodles?

This is hearsay, but I've heard that, around the time the issue of whether Ando was Japanese or Taiwanese came up, there were also reports in some Chinese newspapers that instant noodles were actually invented by a Japanese acquaintance of his, but not commercialized at the time. Apparently, the issue was that suitable flour was not consistently available immediately after WWII. Ando, using his ROC passport, was able to purchase flour from a local PX (ROC being, of course, an ally of the US), started a small company, and the rest is history. Unfortunately I have been unable to track down the original articles, made doubly difficult by the fact that I cannot read Chinese. Can somebody follow up on this? bluemonq 09:04, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Date of Death

In the beginning of the article it states that Ando died on January 5, but at the end of the article it says January 6. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thom.barchet (talkcontribs) 15:49, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

obituaries

I think this one should also be added (in PhD comics): http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=807 213.131.238.28 (talk) 11:39, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
