Funky equations

From the text: 'For example, a state with (−1, −1/2) would give an Ω value of Ω = |−1| + (−1/2) = −1/2, which is wrong.'

Maybe I'm seeing things, but |-1| + (-1/2) = 1/2, which is a good value for Ω.

I think Ώ can not take negative value since it is defined as the absolute value of ML+MSLiuxunchen (talk) 06:44, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Comments

This seems to overlook more general molecular term symbols where the main symbol is the irreducible representation symmetry of the particular state of interest. This is significantly more interesting and general than diatomic molecular term symbols.

Changing the format

I would like to re-structure the article a bit. I would like to make clear that there are three different systems for labelling molecular states; the first is the one discussed in the present form of the article and is used ONLY for diatomic molecules (uses the projection of the angular momentum along the axis etc). The second system uses the group representation labels. The third system just gives empirical labels X, A, B, C..., a, b, c... L0rents (talk) 17:20, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
