Модест Ильич Чайковский (13 мая 1850 — 1916) — младший брат Петра Ильича Чайковского.

Закончил училище правоведения, но всю жизнь посвятил искусству. Модест Ильич писал пьесы, переводил сонеты Шекспира, он автор либретто опер брата «Пиковая дама» и «Иоланта», а также опер "Дубровкий" Эдуарда Направника, "Наль и Дамаянти" Антона Аренского и "Франческа да Римини" Сергея Рахманинова. Будучи ближайшим другом великого композитора, он стал и его первым биографом, а также основателем музея Чайковского в Клину.

Tschaikovsky vs. Tchaikovsky

How should the name of the composer of the music for “Serenade” be spelled? Most Westerners now spell it Tchaikovsky, but City Ballet took up, during Balanchine’s lifetime, the spelling Tschaikovsky. Why? Because that’s how the composer spelled it when he was in New York in 1891. (My thanks to the reader who sent me a copy of his Carnegie Hall autograph from the Pierpont Morgan Library.)

obscure sexuality

It says here that M. Tchaikovsky lived with his boyfriend for 17 years from 1876. However, his boyfriend seems to have been borne in 1868. If both dates are correct then M. Tchaikovsky was not a homosexual but a pedophile. AdamChapman (talk) 11:44, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
