I've removed the putative motto "Our Town, Our Future" from this article. I've done so for two reasons: first, because I question whether it's an actual motto, as opposed to a transitory promotional slogan; second, because it doesn't seem like a fact salient enough to include in the infobox.

The source cited for the purported motto is the city website, which features a logo involving three picto-people in a circle formed by three arrows; on the arrows are written "Mitchell", "Our Town", and "Our Future". The logo's style suggests that it is of relatively recent date, so the appearance of the phrase thereon doesn't support a claim that it's been in use since around the time of Mitchell's founding. By my read, a motto is a phrase that's been in use for a very long time, and will continue to be used far into the future, like Nebraska's "Equality before the law", which was placed on the state seal in 1867 (see article) and has never been changed. Since then, Nebraska road-signs, publications, and other materials have used a number of slogans, including "Where the West begins", "The good life", and "Visit Nebraska, visit nice". The inclusion of these slogans on officially produced materials is no indication that they're official mottoes, or that they've supplanted EBTL in any way. I submit that unless we find sources indicating that "Our Town, Our Future" was officially adopted as the city's motto and has been in use for some time, we must assume that it's a short-term slogan.

Second, MOS:INFOBOX includes "[K]eep in mind the purpose of an infobox: to summarize key facts that appear in the article. The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance... [E]xclude any unnecessary content." In other words, the infobox should be a summary of the most salient facts in an article, not a repository for miscellaneous bits of information. The purported motto does not strike me as such a "key fact", and according to this less-is-better principle, should be left out. If we establish that it is indeed the official motto and has some history behind it, we can include it in the article body. — Ammodramus (talk) 11:44, 20 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
