Okay, this is all based on interviews online (see References), the record label's band page and the Myspace page.

Information missing is as follows:

• Guitarist John's surname. edit: ahem. 'Nachtanoj' is a bit of a joke, but maybe he prefers his identity thus covered?
• Dates of two singles before Hey Man.
• Singles and EP's prior to SL Records
• Other Extra-curricular activies.
• No doubt some other stuff.

A good description of the music would be handy. I'm at a bit of a loss there. Related to this, I'm not sure what category they should go under. "Experimental" is not a perfect fit by any means.

Jules adds: I think the real story of the band name should be covered in a little more depth. Conflicting theories appear to exist, all of which were made up by Gareth. One I particularly like is that Misty's Big Adventure is the title of a 1940's black and white Russian porn film, and that the Magic Roundabaout story is just a cover to spare the blushes of anxious parents searching the internet. My version of events is that the name is a contraction of the original band name, Misty's Big Adventure In The Snow, which refers to my friend Jon's cat, Misty, who while still a kitten (while we were still teenagers ourselves) went out into the back garden to see his first snowfall. Thinking he was under attack, Misty tried to catch every snowflake and eat it. Exhausted, he came back inside and fell so fast asleep Jon's mum announced, "Ah, poor thing. He's had a big adventure"

Misty was a Russian Blue (perhaps this accounts for the porn film theory). His pedigree name was Mistopheles Leanheath Emblem (hence Misty).

Misty died in 2004.

Of course, this story is no more believable that the official line.

Also, a little more band history.

The first incarnation of something approaching Misty's was at a birthday party in somone's back garden in Birmingham, when Sam (who I had been rightly told was a magnificent drummer), played in place of Kieran (the drummer of a band called Wednesday). We played under the name of "The Melon Farmers", and most notably performed an excellent version of "Down in the Tube Station At Midnight" by The Jam. I only later realised that "Melon Farmers" was a reference to the BBC editing of Lethal Weapon, where they over-dubbed a certain swear-word to make it suitable for viewing.

Soon after, Gareth was found in a capsule buried in the Mohave desert. We believe he came from some other world, or had at least made a circuitous journey via Mars to Bilsley.

Wednesday duly broke up, and the three of us got together.

I jumped ship when I realised that I couldn't give enough time to the flourishing band, and left to pursue marriage and a boring desk job. Misty's was transformed from from a three-piece indie rock band fairly shortly afterwards into what you know today.

Some recordings exist of early Misty's gigs, and I also recorded several of the songs we played when still a three piece under the name of the Dead Blue Peter Presenters. These were available as MP3s online until 2004 (only ones I wrote I'm afraid, not any of Gareth's compositions), but may still be on the net somewhere. I've listened to a couple of the early sound desk recordings from gigs recently, and they do have a certain spirit of invention about them, shrouded in vocal incompetence (mine), but I'm afraid I won't point anyone to them unless Gareth and Sam specifcally ask for history's sake - it's so far from what Misty's do now I wouldn't even say it's the ancestor of the current band. More something odd we did once upon a time...

@Mad1badger Hi Matt - it's Matthew Gidley - this page is often vandalised and I rewrote this paragraph to try to prevent it - some of what has been written on here previously was grim and occasionally cruel - sorry if you think my contribution is poor writing - some people who visit this page (not you) may not realise that Gareth joined a band that already existed and he transformed it into something unique, hence my 'stable line-up' remark (also factoring in the departure of DJ Feva).
