We have a couple but I can easily think of several more that would be good: a male, a pair mating, a brown morph individual, a nymph... Richard001 (talk) 06:00, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

References edit

Basically the entire article is from the referenced source. There is an pdf version of that source at http://www.ento.org.nz/nzentomologist/free_issues/NZEnto08_1_1984/Volume%208-102-104.pdf. I think the article needs to be rewritten to avoid so many direct quotations.219.89.167.136 (talk) 05:22, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Size edit

Today I came across a female that was easily 50% bigger than the other ones I've found. I compared it to another female and there was definitely a difference. Very strange. Also, their wings were overlapping in opposite order -- the smaller one's left forewing was on top, whereas the larger one's right forewing was on top. Possibly just a typical variation, but I though it worth noting. Also, the article says they can be between 32 and 60mm... Males are at the smaller end of the range, but I must say that 60mm is enormous compared to even the huge female I found today. Edaemus (talk) 10:56, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Differences between the New Zealand Mantis and the South African Mantis edit

Note that I have posted a similar message on the Talk:Orthodera novaezealandiae page.

It says that the New Zealand Mantis has a blue eyespot on the underside of their forelegs. Shouldn't there be other differences mentioned. Like how the New Zealand ones have fatter necks, while the South African ones have thinner necks.

The South African ones have yellow on their wings which also helps to differentiate them from the New Zealand ones, and although they never have blue eyespots, they sometimes do have tiny little black spots on their legs.

This information can be important to know, since the South African Mantis does sometimes do have tiny little black spots on it's legs. And some people need to know this to avoid confusion with the blue spots, if they are unfamiliar with spotting the difference. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:39, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
